How do you change weapons on maps?

I searched, but I didn't find anything. I was just wondering if it's possible to get Special Forces tools, like grappling hooks and zip lines into BF2 maps... I looked through the files, but I didn't find anything.

    Thanks.

Re: How do you change weapons on maps?

First, if you don't have SF then the answer is no because those items don't exist in BF2.

Even if you do have SF, note that there are some restrictions on what you can release in a public mod. You aren't allowed to release SF content to be used by people who don't own SF.

There are several ways you could do this:
    1. Copy all the BF2 maps into the SF levels folder, then either
    a. modify the kits in the mods\bf2\objects_server.zip to include those objects, or
    b. modify the BF2 maps to use the SF soldiers instead of BF2 soldiers (e.g. xpack\levels\dalian_plant\server.zip\init.con).
    2. Instead, modify the clientArchives.con and serverArchives.con in mods\bf2 to add pointers to all the xpack zip files. Then do either a or b from option 1.

These things will prevent you from playing online so you will need to make backups of all modded files and restore them before going online. Or, option 3 would be to create a new mod folder by copying all the files from mods\bf2 except the levels and the zip files and modifying the Archives.con files to point to the bf2 and xpack zip files. If you choose sub-option b you will also need to copy the levels to the new mod before modifying them.

Finally, keep in mind that EA's stated reason for not including these items for BF2 maps is that those maps are not designed with those things in mind so you will likely find parts of the map will have problems when you use them.

Oh no, I didn't intend it to be a public mod. It's just for my use, I'm not that good at modding. And I know you have to have SF. I'm not that thick. :p Thanks a lot anyway, you answered my question.

EDIT: Except now, when I do as you said it dosen't work. I replaced the file about the kits and that didn't work. So I tried modifying the init file. That didn't work either.... :s

My mistake; minor option a will only work with major options 2 and 3, not 1. Which major option did you use? If you copied all the BF2 levels into SF and then modified their init.con files it should work. You did run SF and not vanilla BF2, right?

Strange... I used Option B and A. I'll try again. I don't need to zip up the files again once I unpack them do I?

But which major option did you use? Copying the maps, changing the Archives.con files, or making a new mod? Did you run vanilla BF2 or SF to test it? How exactly is it not working? Crashing or just not seeing any change in the kits? Normally you should keep the zip files zipped up. I suspect the map .zip file might require being zipped; I believe the objects_server.zip can be left unzipped but it must be in the objects folder.

Well, I used major option 1. And yeah, I ran SF, and I just didn't see any change... When I changed the kits though the shadow of the weapon changed. Nothing else though. I'll see if Option 2 works though...
