The Good: EMX Killaz (I dont remember the exact clan or name but this is close) This guy is one of the best chopper pilots I have seen. I was honored and privelaged to get to be his gunner last night. Because of his expertise I was able to get my 1st gold star! We were playing Dalian Plant ( I think) . I am a newb so dont holler at me for getting map names wrong! Anyway, usually when it comes to choppers, my skills are better at gunning than flying but I am good at neither. This particular individual was excellent at making sure I had the shot. I was able to get a couple of air 2 air kills with the TV missile. Usually I find it extremely difficult. Also we lit up the AA sites like they didnt exsist. At least they werent able to get off maybe 2 missiles. Killaz expertly avoided at least one missle everytime, destoyed the site and then moved on to the objective. He knew when it was time to hover for a cap or when to circle overhead and provide support to the rest our team. All the while he did this I was always in perfect postion to use the TV missile and able to quickly switch to guns. KUDOS EMX Killaz!!! ( I really hope I got your name right). He really did make it seem easy to gun from the chopper. What a difference a good pilot can make!
The Bad CaptUSMC (I know this name is right). Kubra Dam on the USMC side. No one was using the chopper so I jumped in and figured I would get some practice. The only other people even spawning at the airport were the guys using jets so I had the chopper all to my lonesome self to practice and become a better pilot. Usually thats the only time I will fly. If someone else comes up to the chopper I usually figure they are a much better pilot than me and give up the pilot seat and gun for them. I figure either way I learn. So along comes CaptUSMC to the spawn. I do the usual and let him fly and I jump into the gunners seat. The 1st thing this tard does is try to kill me by hovering the nose of the chopper into the out of bounds section and kill me out of the chopper. It probably a good thing this guy wasn't very good at hovering cause he failed and headed back into the battle. We get to the 1st enemy flag and I am in tv mode. I can hear him firing but cant see what he is shooting at. I switch to guns and see that he is firing at a buggy with a guy in the gunners spot. Not sure if he got the buggy or me but we both fire at it and it blows up. We are now at about 1/2 health. The tard then points the chopper at the ground and crashes us both. While dead, he types "are you f*cking blind?" I type back "no I was in TV and couldnt see it. Please line up for the TV shot next time" We both respawn and head to the chopper. The tard then shoots me in the back and kills me. Ok fine.....round is almost over...maybe I can switch sides or something next round. I respawn and wait for the chopper as I knew this guy wasnt that good (prob still better than me) and the chopper would respawn soon. Guess who comes over the hill....I immediatly pull up my sites and aim for his head...he fires but I was quick and killed him before he could TK me again. I got in the chopper and managed to stay in the air till end of the round so I didnt have to deal with him again. I just hope this is not how this guy plays all the time and theat he was just having a bad night cause if it is all the time I feel sorry for his teammates!!!
The Ugly My jet flying skills....ouch! it aint pretty but I keep practicing!!! I managed to win a couple of dogfights and stay in the air for longer than 30 secs. I just cant seem to get the timing of bombs down....I am usually over the target before I can get lined up.
Anyway, I guess the main point I am trying to make with this post is to be a good chopper pilot you not only have to be in control of your chopper but you have to set your gunner up to make kills to be a success. Correct me if I am wrong here but the liitle box on the bottom of the display is your gunners view while piloting and the square inside that rectangle is the what the gunner will see with the TV camera. If you know your gunner hasnt shot the missile yet line up that square on targets and I gaurentee more kills and you will survive longer. Again I didnt read this anywhere but I believe this to be true,
