    Graphic card question

I'm trying to upgrade my graphic card, it's a Geforce FX 5200.

I put in a Geforce 6200 256MB in my computer and started it up, it would always get to the start up screen and then the screen would turn black and not turn up again, but the computer still seemed to be running. But when I put a Geforce 5600 (256 also), everything worked when I started the computer. Before that, I got a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB, put it in, and same thing happened with the Geforce 6200, the screen went black after the start up screen but the computer still seemed to be working.

    Re: Graphic card question

You cannot simply put a card in and expect it to work. First you need to uninstall the old drivers and software. To do this go to the add/remove control panel and find anything related to your old video card and remove it. Then reboot into Safe Mode and run a free program called "drivercleaner 3 pro". This will clean up any old files from your previous card. Next shut the computer completely off. Place the new card into the computer and boot it back up. Download the latest drivers for the card (either from ATI's website or Nvidia's website) and install those. You will need to restart once the drivers are installed.

The final step is to clear the cache folder loacted in the "My Documents/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2/" directory. (NOTE: If you do not have the expansion pack the "cache" folder is located in the Battlefield 2 folder, and the last two extensions are not applicable to you).

This will allow the game to re-optimize the shaders for your new video card resulting in better image quality and performance.

No problem. Also see this thread: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23899
for more information about how to properly uninstall graphics drivers. I gave a breif overview but the thread gets into more detail.
