I installed PRMM and the patch for it. Now whenever I try to start it, everything is normal until it reaches just before it should say "EA GAMES", then the whole thing goes to desktop.

You have BF2 V 1.2 patch installed right?
If so, PRMM is not compatible with 1.2 yet, the patch for PRMM was to update it to 1.12, they will soon release a V.25 though so it can be compatible with BF2 1.2 -
