I tend to play commander a lot on karkand. My question to all the CO's and SL's which route do you take your team as soon as the round starts. From my experience everyone always rushes the hotel, where people become artillery magnets as a giant pile of 30 players in one small area. I always attempt to take the suburbs and the gatehouse first and destroy the bridge in order close the ring around the hotel and the market as it makes for a quick take over of the main island leaving only one route for the MEC to go (unless somebody fixes the bridge, which rarely happens). In theory, this plan works out really well, in practice, not so much as most SL's stick to the market and the hotel basically being encircled by MEC forces, with a slim margin to win. The suburb/gatehouse tactic also makes for some intense firefights across the river creating a very realistic "war" experience. Anyhow just wondering if anyone has specific tactic for karkand, I bet most people do since karkand is such a popular map.

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
For some reason, karkand players are magnetically attracted to the southern flags. As USMC, send an APC or two straight to their gatehouse. Usually can get there with little to no resistance, and take the flag. Once their gatehouse is down, just hold it. Have one squad in a jeep just go around taking back flag once it becomes a Train Accident / Gatehouse war. then just close in on them and take the Train Accident.

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
Sometimes, I take a jeep and rush into MEC's defense , at the hotel flag. And normal I survive it, and head for Suburb flag. Then I tell my squad, to join on me, to get the flag faster . If I keep getting raped by MEC, I take an APC at full speed, rushing over the hills (US Spawn , right site), and then when out of "combat area", I drive in the water , and continue to the Flags on the MEC island, and getting squad to join. Warehouse is pretty easy and fast to capture alone. Last time I did it, I got more than 150 points IAR.Comment

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
Most folks have figured out the routes to backflag the MEC - down both sides and up to suburb/over to gatehouse. Still, sometimes you'll get those newbie teammates that just keep falling on their own swords running at the hotel for 25 minutes.Comment

The real problem is that, unless you play with a clan or friends, nobody listen to SL or COmm order, dont respawn on SL quick enought to alloud a mass rush to the first few important flags....
Almost every time I found myself alone tryng to take a flag "behind enemy lines.... " ...and of course i get pawned.....Comment

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
I take a tank to the suburbs....in the begining I took a Humvee and drove fast with a gunner to keep the enemy down so they could not spot us to everyone else. There is also a short cut to the suburbs that I take a tank too also.
Here is a secret to accross the little stream without having to capture the hotel flag. Go on foot when it is clear and jump down over the embankment as soon as you run down the hill. If you are a squad leader besure you have a medic close by, because if you do not get your parachute out in time, half your life will be gone. Stay as close as you can to the wall while sprinting. Rest until you have full sprint and sprint to train. Rest. Sprint accross the stream (a squad member, not leader) go for the nearest flag. Once that flag is captured, The mecs will be comming your way. Have a soldier on the TOW and some AT ready and a sniper would be great also. Defend, defend, defend. Getting to main flag can be trouble and time consuming. Wait until you have reinforcements befor attempting it.
Take the vehicle there and have the spec op drive to the assets and blow them up, or you can place the vehicle in the way of the entrance of the point and force tanks to blow it up to enter, that way you know they are close by.
Once you have that point, the USMC should find the hotel point getting easier.
Then you can drive the tanks over for some support and capture the main flag.
This is just some tactics that work on Karkand, as you can see, that's my fav map.

Always over the water, if the SQL is smart and stays out of the action for 5 minutes with a full squad who are all spawning on him then you are in a great position from the start. You'll always get players who prefer the alleyways and some of them are awesome but to win it helps to cut off the MEC armour and destroy assets. Besides that it draws MEC players away from the front end , with little in the way of hardware they are almost always heavily outgunned.

i dont have a tactic for the whole map,
but @ the start of the map i just always do what this guy does in this movie and slaughter all i see.
you can also get up the gap by going to the 4th post from the right, jump on to it and running jump off the post onto the roof, also if you miss you dont die cos there are boxes underneath you so u land on them and only lose a small bit of health.
its also a good place for quad leaders to hide and kill people. take over the two flags easily.Comment

I think most of us have felt the frustration of being in a stratetgic situation (like the factory out post in karkland or airfield in wake) badly needing backup ...should it come it may turn round for our teams favor.... yet most often it doesnt you get blasted away and your team loses...Originally posted by ZAGORThe real problem is that, unless you play with a clan or friends, nobody listen to SL or COmm order, dont respawn on SL quick enought to alloud a mass rush to the first few important flags....

sad thing is they were all waiting for some vehicle to spawn or just being stupid and not paying attention..

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
I take an APC and sit on top of the hill to the east out of site (prepping for the out of bounds run). That way they get all their armor out of my way. Then I make a mad dash down the hill, over the land bridge, drop half my squad at cement factory and take the rest of my sqaud to factory. Works like a charm most of the time, they cap cement factory and the MEC start coming after them... Then Factory flag goes white and they are already engaged at cement factory.Comment

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
Yeah, it is straight to the suburb for me. Usually, there is enough cover all the way that you can cap it pretty easily. It has nice access to the rest of the "back" flags as well.
There are many maps that have kind of "worthless" flags. I think the hotel is one of those. Everybody spends SO MUCH time trying to get it ( I think its really just to get more points) that the MEC can usually prevail fairly easily. Even if the MEC kept the hotel, the worse they could do is send some spec ops to blow up crap, but they have a long way to go to get to the uav and scan...
There are defnitely "must have" flags as well on many maps. TV station at Sharqi, Gatehouse at Karkand, Refinery at Dragon Valley, etc. Basically anytime there is a capturable enemy base, that should be the main focus. Once you have the base, STAY AND DEFEND! or at least cap a nearby flag that will give you a little "cushion". Blowing all their assets and defending their base can be enough of a distraction, that other less important flags can go be capped by other squads.Comment

I do this all the time too. It is best to do it as a medic so that if you do fall you can just heal yourself. I dont stay on top though....to vulnerable. I go to that next level straight towards the west and get down on my belly. there I can constantly throw medic packs, be a squad leader to keep flag, kill people who never expecet someone to be up there...etc. I love that spot.Comment

i always sneak around back and take a couple of MEC flags, but like always no one spawns back there, everyone is too busy fighting over the first flag and trying to get points.Comment

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
I always try to send my teams to Cement Factory and from there to Factory using back road next to water so when MEC is trying to take Cement Factory back my team is taking their Factory over and securing it so we can get their APCs and Tank.Comment

Re: To USMC Squad Leaders and Commanders of Karkand (64 players)
I swear.. Karkand is played the same every damn time I load the map..
Round starts
Some fighting breaks out over the first, nearest MEC flag
The USMC sneaks around, and captures the furthermost, back base
The MEC spawn away from the hotel trying to re capture the bases being taken from behind them
The USMC take the hotel
Some fighting breaks out in the middle of the map
The USMC capture all the spawn points except for the furthermost back base
Fighting breaks out between the bridge
Some dumb MEC sneaks across, and captures the hotel
The USMC team wins the round!
Ohh.. fun!Comment
