Okay, okay, we've all heard the peeing and moaning about 1.2, and I'm not going to disagree, there are some nasty bugs in it (AT rockets, why do you hate me?). However, I do feel the need to defend EA/DICE to some degree.

Q: Why did they change the gameplay and not fix the engine issues?
A: Think about it... if you go onto a BF2 forum at any given time, what kind of feedback and suggestions do you see, if you look for comment/complaint threads? When I check, I usually get about one to three on engine issues (AT rockets going through stuff, red/blue, zoom/unzoom/zoom, CTD, etc...), and ten to twelve on gameplay tweaks (OMG Heli Whores!11!, sTuPiD t0oBeRz, I-lost-and-I-am-torqued-about-it, 1337 sploitz). Now, as they look at this, they could attack the less commented upon and FAR more labor intensive engine fixes, or they could slap some new values on the gameplay and tweak it. Gameplay is glory, engine fixes are droll, mundane, and require a lot more work. Basically, by whining about gameplay, we've doomed ourselves to a gameplay patch.

Let's get onto the gameplay stuff I just made fun of, since that's been the bulk of commentary on 1.2!
Q: Okay, discounting engine issues, why is 1.2 still whorish? People still hop about, spawn rape with the new PKOwnage, and spam claymores like candy?
A: Because you can't patch people. While I personally would love it if DICE would go house to house and give frontal lobotomies to nincompoops, this might violate several laws.
Q: AT Sucks!
A: That's not even a goddamn question. Anyway, of course you can't kill a tank by yourself. They didn't put fire and forget Javelins in the game to build up team play. Tanks are killing machines, terminators on treads. You should have to work to bust them up. There are few things more satisfying than getting two guys in a squad to tread-pop a tank and sending it sky high. Getting raped? Get teamspeak, get some buddies, and set an ambush. It will take him far longer to get back than for your team to advance. (And, yes, I play AT far more than I play armor. I suck in a tank, but I can go toe to toe with an average armor driver as AT in urban maps, where I can shoot and scoot easier. Good armor drivers require a buddy or two, but they're SOOOO worth it.)
On a related note, I miss the Blackhawk. Yeah, it was annoying when it was anal ranging on Mashtuur, but there was a joy in bringing it down through good teamplay. Now, it's just like kicking a retarded puppy. There's no exaltation from killing it, and no six kill payoff, since no one flies in it anymore.
Q: Snipers rule!
A: What did I tell you about phrasing it as an interrogative? And, yes they do, and it makes me sad. Again, I liked Sniper in 1.12. I had gotten pretty good with the M24, and I really enjoyed waiting and stalking, lining up and BANG!, dropping some poor sap. As with the Hawk, this is no longer the case. It's cake now, and everyone is sniping away. Play Mashtuur or Wake, and stop for half a second. A stinking firing squad will open up on you. Woo, that was fun. Personally, I would have liked them to make the Dragunov, Chinese Rifle, and the Barret all M24-accurate, and simply given them different power scopes. Right now, they're basically 3x power (semis), 4.5x power (M95), and 5x power (M24, Parker-Hale L96A1). Imagine if they were 6x and 10x, or even better, 4-8x and 8-12x variable power scopes. Less of that unholy easy shooting, better view. (And yes, combat scopes get up into multiples power. Spotting scopes can get better than 100x power.)
Oh, and that no FF claymore thing is stupid. I understand with the AT mines, because of their danger of use, but the claymore have gotten horrid. Let me blow them up with grenades, please. As a sniper, if I don't hear the grenades blowing up my claymores and know I'm under attack, I deserve that knife in the back (or paddles).
Q: Why can't engineers bash people with their wrench?
A: Good question. I move that we take away the Engineer's knife and let him smack people with the big old wrench he carries.
Thanks for listening,
Mavlyn
