why do we care about padding anymore?

    Seriously..whats a matter anymore?
I mean the total number of availbel unlocks can be acheived with only 50K points, and ribbons badges etc..they dont do anything.
So why do we care if someone gets a badge by knifing a friend, or sitting in a jeep in the water. 1,2 or maybe 3 useless people on a team for a round or two..hell you get that without padders.
I hit 50k points the other night after 6 months of work. I got all my unlocks, couple badges..and ya know what, now I have nothing to really look forward to, and it sucks.
I just dont get it, and Ive stopped caring. Cant show badges/ribbons off during a game..and I could care less what rank you are.
Why does padding affect your game?

Right there. You answered it. All things being equal, padding affects no one. But the BF2 world is made up of people like the bsf crew who will pad their ass off...and then turn around and brag like we own them respect. Just look at how many people have stats sigs. They want to look cool. They want to brag. And some of those types may be legit, they might have earned their stuff, but we will never know.

Hm. When someone is padding, it means that 2 or more people on my team aren't doing anything useful to win at all.

It annoys me even more when the server is full and they do it. There are people who actually want to get in and you know... play the game.

yeah but I got crap badges, I stumbled into mine.
I havent figured out why i should go and make an attemp for a badge or ribbon. My knife and pistol ones came after they nerfed the req.
And all my others are from usual play.
I could get more after looking at medal progress, but Im missing some veteran ones and have no reaosn to play those classes. My hours under 20 with both medic and assualt will problably never change.
I mostly keep the stat sig since my stupid ass used a diffrent user name then forum name.

Check out that collection of basics baby!!!

Because if someone's padding while on your team, they ain't pulling their weight. They're wasting slots and helping your team lose since it's a good bet the other side doesn't have padders in it.

Thus, yeah, kick 'em off the server for being useless.

The worst/best padding tactics involve nothing short of griefing. Ban 'em.

Beyond that, I don't care. It's kinda funny to see some folks who love the brag about their stats get smacked down... but other than that, I don't care what the other guy's doing.

I think the main reason people pad stats is just to have all the unlocks. What's the point of putting in months of work to get that nice and shiny unlock when you can have it from a couple days of padding stats?

The stats system in BF2 is just a joke. It's not really functional and useful for anything other than to show off as is painfully obvious on these forums. What's the point of earning badges and ribbons? Just to tell all your friends that you knifed 50 people in a round so you can have an icon in your sig that I think most BF2 players have no clue as to what it represents?

I say axe the stats. We don't need them. All they do is cause silly problems like stat padders, and unmodifiable servers (which i consider to be blasphemous in this day and age of highly customizable games). With all that money that EA and DICE are wasting on running the stats servers (must be astronomical bandwidth bills), keeping them in tip top shape, paying people to police for stat padders, they could have put that money into BF3 by now or any number of missing features that were supposed to be in BF2.

It be nice to see them actually implement a useable function to rank or collection of badges. Sure padding would become more abundant but then I could at least get that drive to gain ranks back.
I liked how it was before with the unlocks to be honest, sure not all unlocks are better then basics, but it felt good having something someone else different that coudl be see in game and such.

Re: why do we care about padding anymore?

i could care less when people statpad. i play the game for fun, and while i may go out of my way to get a badge or two (and by that i dont mean statpadding but by *trying* for it - like ordinance or pistol badges), theyre really pretty meaningless. badges dont make you play any better, and someone that sucks but has all gold expert badges is still going to suck at the end of the day.

however, there is a breed of player that takes games like this quite seriously - usually older military or ex-military folk. some take pride in badges theyve earned, and are usually the type of person who goes out of their way to play tactically and doesnt bunnyhop, claymore spam, c4-chuck, dolphin-dive, spawncamp, baserape, etc.

now for someone who plays like that, getting some of the expert badges - especially ones like the knife, ordinance, etc - is quite difficult. so they take pride in having achieved them. then they see some kid named '=KKK= PyScHo KiLL0r 666' standing behind a building stabbing his clanmate '=KKK= @SS r4p0r' (who is getting revived by a third clanmate) repeatedly and getting the expert knife badge in 30 seconds. that would be pretty annoying.

i dont really care about statpadders since i dont really care about badges or ranks, i get what i get from normal play and whatever badges ill have will naturally reflect my playstyle. but there are a lot of people who *do* care, and yeah.. its very easy to understand why they get so ****ed off about statpadders.

dice should just write a script that scans stats for any unnatural fluctuations (like stabbing the SAME guy with a knife 18 times in a row, which under normal gameplay is statistically improbable) and if more than 3 such instances occur the account is earmarked for examination by someone at dice, and then wiped if it is determined to be that of a padder. the problem is that dice probably doesnt really care, since this would be a lot of added administration time for them. im sure that working on things such as retail booster packs and BF3 - which will directly translate into more profit for them - take priority over ensuring that their ethical, legit gamers (which are probably in the minority) remain perfectly happy.

...although i should note that when i was a noob - my *first* round playing BF2 i was caught by statpadders. at the time i didnt understand what was happening - i was being repeatedly shot by an enemy while one of my teammates just stood there and revived me over and over. it was incredibly aggravating to say the least.

I just don't see any reason to tolerate people who circumvent the system we all abide by. They're posers. Period.

Re: why do we care about padding anymore?

i dont see what can be done about them unless EA/dice are willing to take sterner measures.
there was one guy who posted a screenshot of his screen showing him ranking up, and hacks were clearly visible in it - the enemy players were neon yellow and visible through walls, and every enemy player was visible on his minimap.
he later removed the image and replaced it with a poorly edited one, but some quick thinker snagged it from their cache or when it was originally posted.
he was reported by at least 50 people in that thread. did anything happen to him? no. dice/EA doesnt care. hes still playing, and he is still posting here. and thats not stat-padding, thats far worse.

i dont think we should tolerate them... but its human nature - its not going to change, not in BF2 nor any other online game with statkeeping. if those badges/ranks are so damned important to them they are worth going through the hassle of cheating for them, well.. im not going to lose any sleep over it. the only people they are cheating are themselves - since deep down they know theyve earned nothing and are just frauds.

                          just my 2 cents...

"My personal opinion on stat padders are kinda pitiful coz when you have to cheat etc... you are kinda admitting to at the very least yourself that you cant win on even terms thus admitting that you are a loser .... and it might carry over in real life."

but then again im just high and bored ..he...ha..he..
