    Server browser bug list

How long does it take EA and DICE to realize that their server browser is the worst one ever made in a game? How many complaints, glitches and crashes does it take to get it through their heads, that it sucks major donkey balls? I mean, it is slow, laggy, unresponsive, lacking of basic features, not user friendly, unstable and many of the features (such as map filters) don't work at all. What do the devs at DICE think about it? Don't they even care? They haven't even said a word about it, despite the complaints from the community. Why can't they just find someone else's browser or redesign a new one? It is one of the most frustrating things in the whole game.

Here are my bugs/complaints so far (post more so i can support my argument):

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. You can't use the scroll wheel, which has been invented for about 10 years now and everyone loves.
    2. You can't sort favorites out by map, name, etc.
    3. The pings are never accurate (mostly too high).
    4. Map filters don't work at all the first few times, but then they work afterwards.
    5. When clicking on some servers, the browser stalls for about 30 seconds.
    6. Sometimes, the current map for the server will be displayed as the previous map until you join the server.
    7. Scrolling is slow, choppy and tedious, and sometimes result in the browser freezing up.
    8. You can't select it to only display Special Forces servers while in vanilla, and vice versa.
    9. The IP/port is sometimes not displayed correctly when clicking on a server.
    10. Server filters in general sometimes do not work right.
    11. (May be fixed) if there are more than 6 filters selected, no servers will be shown when you update the list.
    12. When joining a server, the message does not appear and it freezes up.
    13. Overall performance of the browser is laggy and unresponsive (Feels like you are moving a cursor with a spring attached, and that buttons don't like it when you press them)
    14. Searches for servers don't work, (fixed, type in "%yourtext" - Drevor) and there is no way to find part of a server name.
    15. You should be able to see what country a server is located to determine ping and lag you will get.

Well, I can at least help you with your last issue. I found that after 1.12 got released and mentioned it here a few time but noone seemd to care.
in order to search for a *part* of the server name, just type in "%yourText"

I agree, server browsing is fricken horrible. Doesn't matter what Kind of computer you have, it is overwhelmingly slow, laggy, unresponsive, and buggy. How could they have engineered BF2, yet come out with such a primitive server browser?

BTW, for map searches/filters. The first attempt won't work. You need to click the map filter box, and re-search it 2 or 3 times for it to work. Once you do, it will work like a charm and sort out only the maps you want.

havnt played bf2 in months but the browser has always been a pet peeve of mine, i hate it, the pings are all screwed up, i always end up on a euro server, ahh to much crap to complain about i, i guess the ea people dont play the game or they are monkeys if so than its understandable why they are retarted

The best server browser in any game I've seen was the browser for Starsiege: Tribes. You could search by Tag name, player name, set up filters for pings and mods, it also refreshed about 500 servers in under 30 seconds. Not to mention you could select which servers would be refreshed and which ones wouldn't. You also had the option for refreshing only your favorites.

Without trying to flame you, I think that anyone who continues to use the ingame browser to find servers and suffers because of it should maybe use something else that works maybe?

Why continue to use something that's broken ?

Because that's whats provided and what we expect to work.

Why should we be forced to use a 3rd party utility to search for servers and put aside the fact that EA/DICE created a completely below mediocre Server filter? For a game like this, creating a adequate server filtering device should have been the least of their problems, and obviously, really seemed too much like it was..

Anyway, in that case, can you give us a link to the server browser utility that you use?

I agree 110% with that but I fail to see why someone would put themselves through the hell of using the ingame browser just because it's supposed to work when they don't have to. But at this stage I doubt that it's ever going to get any better. if they can get 10's of thousnads of people playing at the moment then I can't see them realising that it actually needs to be changed.

I use All Seeing Eye from Yahoo! I tried others and while they did the job I just kept on going back to ASE.

In 1 button-click and I get a list of ranked servers, in Europe, with a ping of less than 100, not full, not empty, with 2 rounds per map, 64-player server, with punish OFF.

Another click and I get a list of all the servers in France running mods.

Another click and I can find unranked servers running battlerecorder.

It's easy to use and easy to configure :)

Yeah, as BigFinger said, I too am willing to help anyone who wants to try ASE out for the first time but can't figure it out. Or I have a list of custom filters (not the ones that come standard) that filter out certain mods/maps that I can make available.

I do have ASE it's just that i prefer using the ingame one because i can do other things at the same time.
