    BF2 Disc

Why the hell won't EA just include in a patch so that you can run BF2 without the disc, ID/Raven put a patch in for Quake 4 so that you do not need the disc to run the game, which keeps the game disc intact. Reason im bringing this up is because my BF2 disc is now cracked, well in the inside ring, from all the time I have been putting the disc back in the case it clicks in and the middle part of the case has just worn away the plastic from the middle of the disc, and now I have 3 or 4 cracks about 2 cm into the disc, even though it still works I think it will just get worse, and I don't think theres a ***** patch for BF2.

There is an option to use an image with Daemon tools. Works fine for me. Have a look over at gamecopyworld.

cos then people could sell the disc and it would breech all their copyright laws etc etc..

        I don't see how that'd work, they'd still need a CD key.

I figure the CD-Key is what matters. My method of running the game shouldn't. I learned from not being able to run 1942 or BFV and having to go download the disc because of scratches. What a drag.

ive done this with daemon tools for a long time but with alot of other games.

now i hear mention of punkbuster actually seeing that daemon is running and can take action if it does.

is anyone having to run any other programs to prevent blacklisting from daemon tools?

or will we be fine just mounting the image and thats it?

              thanks.

btw - whats the best proggy to get an image from the bf2 cd. will nero do it? casue i dont feel like installing alcohol.

Most game companies that do CD checks seem to remove them eventually but it probably won't happen with BF2. They never did it for BF1942. I use a mini-image though (which is very easy and a major reason why they shouldn't bother to use CD-check besides the fact that you need a valid key to play online whether you have the CD or not).

For BF2 you probably just need to mount the image. Some games look for the driver name to blacklist which is why the DT installer lets you change it; you should pick some non-default name. (I think the 4.x version does it automatically; I'm using 3.47.)

Nero might work; the basic idea is that you start making the image and then cancel it after a bit but don't delete the partial image file. This gives you a "mini-image" which is obviously not the whole disk but enough that the game thinks it is. You could also just download the mini-image (which is what I did).

Ahh, ok. that makes sense. I didnt know that gcw had the mini images already there for you.

Also, im using Daemon tools 4.00HE Version. Its that the newest? And maybe i need to reinstall it, b/c i dont remember chaning any names of drivers when i did.

                    Thanks

Can anyone confirm that Daemon Tools 4.x DOES use non default driver names when it installs? Cause i dont wana load it up and get banned ya know :)

                      Thanks.

                        Re: BF2 Disc

So i said the hell with 4.x (4.03) and got 3.47 and its giving me the option to change the driver names.

                        The Defaults are as follows:

                        Bus driver name:

                        d347bus

                        Miniport driver name:

                        d347prt

                        ----------------------

So after reading those it kinda sounds like they are just made up anyways. Like the d347 obviously refers to the version and the bus and prt are the particular drivers.

So in changing them; can i just add a letter at the end or add an underscore. Does it matter?

                        Suggestions, comments welcome.

God i sound like a noob but i just love bf2 so much i dont want to screw things up.

well i think youre correct in saying that.
beacuse when i bought bf2 from the shop before i paid for the guy says "you cannot bring that game back to the shop unless the disk in defected and we will test it on our pc" plus i was also told have i got the correct specs ect.

so it the cd key that is what they dont want to be stolen.

i not 100% sure but im pretty sure that you could install bf2 with another disk yousing youre cd-key but i could be wrong!!

Pretty much anything, I believe. I just changed the d to dt on mine.

There is a Mini Image, this is a small file which is supposed to be an image of the CD much like any other image, but is only a few Kb large, it only stores the information needed to let the game pass its CD checks.

You can mount it with Deamon tools.

googling should find you both of these, but if not just PM me.
