Battlefield 2 Links for Beginners?

I've never felt like a bigger noob than I do now.

During the evolution of the FPS from Quake to Half-Life to Counterstrike to Call of Duty, I have become a better player and much more team-oriented.

But now, having bought Battlefield 2, I feel like I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I have played for a few hours now, trying to learn little tactics here and there, but at the end of most games, my score is always somewhere between 0 and 7.

And it doesn't help that the instruction booklet for BF2 is like 10 pages long... is there a thread here in TotalBF2 that has a list of great websites for beginners in Battlefield 2?

Or any other suggestions for getting better would be great.

BF2 was my first Battlefield game so I can tell you the online guides are useless and you should learn everything yourself. Find out which kit you prefer and stick to it, being sure to play as a couple of other kits occasionally if you're preferred kit isn't fit for the job on hand. Play in squads and take note of what other people are doing, then try it yourself on another server. Then, try to build on that using your own initiative. I found a couple of good spots to camp at on Kubra Dam but now everyone's using them, and I guess it's because people saw what I was doing and tried it themselves (</bighead>).

Reading guides telling you what to do is boring and is long-drawn out. The manual is small because you're meant to explore the ways of the Battlefield yourself. That's what makes it so good - the freedom to do what you want.

Ugh. Camp? Bleech! Sounds like another useless snipetard tactic. Please don't play sniper whatever you do. At least 99% of the people who play sniper do nothing except sit around on their asses all day waiting for a shot. It's extremely rare to see a sniper help their team/squad. And Duffman, I'm not saying you're a snipetard, or useless. I've never seen you online. I've just seen way, way, WAY too many snipers that are.

Some of the guides are good. Look around for the ones here and at the sites posted above. They are good for starters, but you'll need a lot more than that. Practice, practice, practice.

So... how was I supposed to figure out that pressing "9" will do your parachute? It's not even on the controls page in the game... let alone in the booklet. These kinds of things I would have never known unless I looked online somewhere.

i started my BF career being a lazy bum and playing BF1942 multiplayer demo... very simple picked up the game mechanics, choose your kit, use it for its intended purpose, cap flags...then i moved on to BF2 and picked up the more hardcore aspects...squads, commanding, spotting and such.

I would say it took me a while to get used to BF2. I also had no idea what was going on when I first started. I still wouldnt consider myself to be real good at the game, but at least I know whats going on. Just keep practicing, find a class that works best for you. If you want easy points, be a medic or support and throw your ammo bags and medic kits at everyone you see

I've been playing for months and still feel like I dont know everything. Just the other day, someone made a comment here about "...and I know how to use the secondary weapon on the APC" (to paraphrase).

I coughed up my Bass Ale. There's a secondary weapon on the APC?!!! You're kidding me?

Argh!!!!!!


So, I come here almost every day trying to pick up a tip here and there. Most of the fellas here know this game really well and many are more than happy to share their knowledge. Occasionally, you'll find the idiot who will try to make you feel stupid for buying the game only recently, but just stick to it and ignore those types.

Set the voice volume under audio tab to 0 to turn off the tips.

So I have been seeing players do a roll when they come around a corner or when someone is shooting at them, HOW DO YOU DO THIS, its quite a tool when your in combat on foot!

I beg to differ that this is not an FPS, but at the same time a "Vech based Mob combat", I'm not new to the game just to the forum. the wide spectrum of the game from small arms combat to full on airial assault is what makes the game so fun.

And my gun is quite effective.

I just wanted to know a specific control that is handy on city maps and close quarters with enemies....

Again, i am wanting to know how to do the "roll" while on foot in the game?
