    6800gt or 7800gs

My 6800gt is a great card, I play mostly high settings but like most of you I want my pc to be all it can be. I'm just not sure it will be worth the $300 if there is no difference in game play. Has anyone bought this card yet?(AGP version)

It will be a small incremental step up in speed. Not worth $300 at all for you, both are 16 pipe cards with similar performance in the same ball park. The full 20 pipe 7800GT is a better deal (PCIe only) but even then from a 6800GT its not big enough of a step to justify the cost IMO.

Mine (7800 GS) will arive this week but I can't see moving from what you have since we are stuck in AGP land. I doubt the performance difference will be noticable in game and only detectable in benchmarks.

      I am upgrading from a 9700 Pro...

Yeah, I wouldn't pour any more money into an AGP system. Just wait until you're ready to go PCI-e.

Well if I was you I would go with an X850XTPE that is the best AGP card out if im not mistaken... another thing could be spend that 300 bux on getting convertd to PCI E like get this mobo its decent http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131524
              then get this CPUhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103533

and use your RAM then maybe later get a decent PCI E card maybe an X800GTO or even a 7800GT or soemthing what ever your budget is

The 7800GS which launched a few weeks ago is as fast or faster than the x850, even so I think the OP has a good enough system to hang on until AM2 in about a year (wait for the .65nm revisions).

If he wants to upgrade I dont think the upgrade option you listed is that smart. Unless he can find a buyer to take his old rig off his hands, your recommendation is more a $600+ side step, and is just replacing a perfectly fine 3400+ with a 3500+ and swapping a 6800GT for a x800GTO/7800GT.

If the OP wants to upgrade I would pick up a s754 NF4 PCIe board and a 7900GT when they are released in about a month. (pick up the video card once the prices go down a bit, around summer time)

                    Re: 6800gt or 7800gs

is not worth 300$, if will make you system better, yes, or the x850xt PE, but its not worth 300$. wait for AM2 and all that. so dont go PCIexpress until then.

Okay...I just went from a BFG 6600GT OC to the BFG 7800 GS CO and I can't EXPLAIN to you how much better things are now. I load faster, I'm able to up my settings and my resolution. To me, it was worth DOUBLE the $350 I paid because I can play really well now. My SPM and KDR have increased significantly because I can actually HIT people without any stuttering at all. Life is good for me now.

7800gs stock= 3,100 or more ( i have seen the OC ones in the 4,000)

                        850xt oc= 2400
