Why can't I join a SF Multiplayer Map?

I can join BF2 SP and MP maps ok, and I can join BF2SF SP maps ok, but cannot join BF2SF MP maps. I either get returned to the lobby with "you must be same version" errors, or game crashes to desktop. All filters were checked. Prior to the 1.2 patch I had only played BF2SF SP maps, so if there was a SF multiplayer map issue prior I would not have seen it.

I have loaded no mods, and here is the chronological order I loaded up my game and patches:

    1. Loaded BF2 game.
    2. Loaded 1.12 patch.
    3. Loaded BF2 SF game.
    4. Loaded 1.12 patch a second time for SF version as advised.
    5. Loaded 1.2 incremental patch; now both BF2 and BF2SF show I have game version 1.1.2696-528.0.

I could not find any other threads on this subject save for one and did not see any helpful solution posted. Anyone out there experience my situation that found the solution?

      Uninstall?

      Thanks for the response.

So should I un-install everything and re-install the order you advised or can I avoid half the work and just try installing the full patch over top right now?

If the full patch does cure my disease, then what was the purpose of the incremental patch if I have to install the full patch anyway? I thought having the 1.12 patch already installed was the purpose of the incremental patch? Or is there an install bug with the incremental 1.2 patch and I happened to miss the train on that one?

I would download the full 1.2 patch then uninstall everything.

Then install BF2, patch to 1.2, Install SF, then patch to 1.2 again.

          It got worse...

I tried to uninstall SF and got an error that started with >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp(469) pAPP:Battlefield 2:Special Forces ...some more lines then it ended with @windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180. After I clicked ok, it then gave me an Install Shield error that told me to check my internet connection, empty my temp folder, and shutdown all background programs, then try setup again with an error code of -5001. I did and no joy. I was able to uninstall the BF2 game ok, and tried to uninstall BF2SF again and same same.

My defrag is ok, and I virus screened and everything is ok. I went to my PC control panel and tried to use the uninstall program but got the same results. I'm a PC moron, so my going into the registry is out of the question.
