Hiya
i just wanted to share my particular remedy of the problem of high pings on server lists and ingame.
Ive never really had a problem with high pings or lag etc.
I usually have an ingame ping of 20-30 when playing and server lists shows min pings of 30-40-60 upwards (Excluding 0 pings!)
After installing the new BF2 v1. 2 patch of February 2006 I showed server pings of 140 and higher and ingame pings of 100-140!!
After browsing various tips and forums relating to BF2 I was baffled to how I could solve this problem. I did a full registery check, full spyware/adware check, rigorous virus check and checked router settings but to no avail.
Totally re-installed BF2 and BF2 SF and still no luck.
After briefly seeing something about punkbuster maybe being out of date, I went to the punkbuster website, downloaded pbsetup, saved it to another folder (not the PB folder in the BF2 directory!) and run pbsetup. It updated itself and then after adding my BF2 game to the pb game list, also updated BF2 punkbuster related files. I crossed my fingers and loaded up BF2 and viola...server lists showed back to normal pings of 30 and upwards!!
I know PB is supposed to update itself on the users machines and the server machines but obviously it didn't!
I am on a DSL connection using the BT Voyager 205 modem/router
I hope this helps at least someone out there
