Horible Frame rate after the patch.

I Installed the new patch, loaded the game and evrything seemed ok, but I'm getting like 1FPS I rebuted, joined another game, same thing. Reset all the video options to Default, except the resoluion which was set to 1024 x768. These were my settings before as well. The game is now unplayable..... Is there anything I can do now? BTW, I tried to play both BF2 and SF

Hey man, I am having the exact same problem, I have an ATI 9800 PRO with 256 MB of memory and I can't even get over 3 FPS after the patch. I also noticed that my ping is over 200 even on the closest EA US server I can find. I'm not sure if the ping has something to do with it or the video card. Whatever it is, I really hope its fixed soon.

I'm also using ATI, maybe that's the problem?....

The only time I saw this, it was punkbuster that was to blame. It was as bad as you describe, except it would bluescreen the machine, too. Not to say this isn't a new prob, but I have an ATI 9800 Pro and the game is running OK after the patch.

Well, I heard a lot of old ATI cards were suffering after the new patch, like the 9000 and 9200 and such.... But a 9800 PRO should not be having problems, thats what has me worried...

I got a 9800XT and I am already, this is what I did after patching:

              - Cleared the cache
              - Loaded a new cache by playing BF2 and BF2:SF in SP
              - Defragmentated
              - I also cleaned my General.con of Server History
              - And my Battlefield 2/Dmp folder of dmp-files.

Same for me, even with evrything at low i get a much lower frame rate(especially with scope of L96A1) than before,
Before this i could do Terrain, Dynamic light and Effects on Medium!
And still with Low my loading times are 4x as long as with Medium on 1.12

                I have Geforce 5700LE
                3.0 GHz
                512 RAM

Before patch 1.2 it was ok, so EA definately made a mistake.

The problem is the worst around Construction site Sharqi wih l96A1 zommed

                  Patch killed my performance also...

I was one of the lucky ones all the way up until now :hmm:

I never had one single issue with the game even from the day of release (excluding server side problems the very first day of release, yes we all remember that...LOL :p) , ran better than it was supposed to according to many...I was said to run the game at 1024X768 @ Med. settings. Since release I've been running the game at 1290X960 @ all high except textures no aa with 55+ FPS CONSTANT...never dropped below 50 unless artillery was raining down or someone just detonated a crap load of C4.

Now I've had to drop the res. down to 1024X768 and some settings to med. and I now get only 40-50 drops down to 30 frequently with old settings. It's still enjoyable once I lower the settings it just irritates me that I know my system can handle it, but I'm not seeing any gain at all.

I've tried 7 different sets of drivers...official, modded, you name it...nothing...so much for "performance gain" in the 1.2 release notes...

But I'm not blaming anyone. It takes a lot to make a game like this and if I have to sacrifice eye candy then I will, I still love BF2. And the people at DICE do an excellent job. Why bitch so much when they work so hard to create a product that's just simply amazing, and has anyone even taken the time to think that 42' wasn't perfect until 1.61b???? BF2 hasn't even been out for a year...give it time....

                  OK FLAME ON!

I'm sorry, but I can't understand why would a patch cause the performance of the game to suffer like that?? I'm so fed up with this game, it's come to the point where I'm about to kill someone I had awsome time all the way till I bought the SF. I couldn't make it work. I literaly spent hours reading on this board to try to solve the problem. After 2 weeks of problem solving, I was lucky enough to make it work. And now this patch came out, and I can't play it.

So there isn't any hope for ATI people?
