I deleted the profiles and it still happened. I also got a Creative Soundblaster PCI card. Could this cause the problem?

It won't hurt to uninstall and reinstall them the way I linked to above. That approch works for both video and audio drivers.

thank god im not the only one i too am having this problem just after the patch makes a strange noise locks up and then reboots my comp.. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

my specs are

P4 2.8E
P4P800E-DEluxe
1.5 Gig corsair xms 3200
9800PRO 256

I found that patch 1.2 enabled EAX again.
Disabling it might help with your crashes.

Everytime I've CTD in 1.2 it was shortly after using C4.
