I agree that the suits don't help on top of buildings and that finding unique hiding spots really helps sniping. But the suit doesn't do jack for you when your name shows up in big bright red (or in some cases blue) letters over your position.

Heres what I did in 1.12, doesn't work anymore but it was SOOO effective.
Lets say its sniper vs. sniper and you are both laying down on buildings, yours is a bit higher than his...or whatever situation it is, as long as you are out of LOS.
I kept pressing Z time after time maybe 10 times in a row going prone to stand prone to stand every time I was zoomed in and every time I went up, I moved my mouse a bit to position my crosshairs on the other guy's head.
He couldn't get off a good shot as I kept disappearing.
Anyways eventually i just hit Z the last time to stand up, left clicked...and hes dead.
I did that alot, worked great in 1.12.
Now because of dolphin divers, I can't do that anymore.
People who play like you make it **** for the rest of us. Some of us actually want to play semi-realistically, and thats just crap what youre doing. Any cheap haxor can play with that strategy

Don't want to read all the posts so I'll just say it, and if it's been said...bite me.
What snipers don't realize:
EXAMPLE: At Wake, when the USMC have taken the southern portion of the island. The snipers usualy tend to go up into mountains or high ground. What I do, is hide near random bushes about a little bit less than the width of a dollar in height. I keep getting the same sniper "hiding" in the mountain at the airbase time after time after time, and he hasn't gotten me yet.
Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?
I dont know about you guys, but stumpy's correct, because your name glows when the enemy passese over, your ghille suit does nought to protect you. I sugest semi-russian, semi-japanese sniper tactics. Take two or three shots in quick succsesion from the best vantage point you can get, and then just run your ass off. You'll probably get one or two of the people you just killed sniping to try and take you out. Then you can come back to that same position and kill them along with the other couple of peole with 'em. I suggest doing this only a couple o times, otherwise they'll wise up and use arty. My seconf favorite tactic is to low crawl all the way around the map until you get to a good point (300 yard with a bolt rifle, 150 or 200 with a Dragunov and 100 with the Chinese 5.8x41 sniper. Then, if your patient enough you can camp a spawn point when your team pushes them back. It's boring, but youll have veteran sniper in no time.

Your absolutley correct. So many snipers make the mistake of taking a point with a high vantage point. What these noobs dont realize is that when people look for snipers, that gonna be the first place. They'd fluck 8541 school in a heartbeat.

I agree Darksniper. It's something that sorta "clicks" (no pun intended) into place as to when to take your shot when leading your enemy.
My best advice is to factor in bullet travel, i.e., how long it will take for your bullet to reach your enemy. The farther away your enemy is, the longer it'll take for your bullet to get to him. Keeping this in mind, apply it to when you lead your shots at moving enemies. The ones that are farther away, you have to lead a little bit more than the ones who are closer. It takes time to get the feel for this, but practice makes for improvement.
In regards to leading the wnwmy, you just have to go with what you feel is correct. The sniper bullets in BF2 do not hit until you make it off the scope, basically a half-second lag inbetween each shot. If your taking shots at a running target, use the Dragunov. The bullet does not lag on the Dragunov, and your eye stays on the scope. This makes for realistic lead, not the gigantic lead used with the BOlt-rifles

I'm just going to go ahead and quote a post by a user on these forums called Bird Killer:
What he is trying to say is that when you shoot it takes a short amount of time before the server registers your shot, and that amount of time is your ping. After that the server has to check the location of the other player, and that that time is his ping. So even if you are playing on a 20ms server it takes 40ms before you know if you hit the guy or not.
Ok then explain to me how I was able to put the bullet velocity on the G36C (or any other gun) to 10 m/s and actually watch the tracers flying with that speed (and bullet drop)?
Read this: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35977
and tell me again there´s no bullet drop and velocity.
Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?
Jinx, I agree with you about just going around to the back of a spawn point until your team pushes them back : ). You can do this even if your team isn't pushing the enemy back... you just have to a good knowledge of the map (where people usually go, where good vantage points are, etc) epecially near the spawn points. Other than that... I usually find that the whole "hidden in plain view" thing works quite well and never stay in one spot to long.
Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?
i use m95 since i unlocked it,my tactics.
1.cap a flag with squad,drop 1 clay.
2.defend flag from 150 away,with a drop clay
3.defend until it get to ontop
4.run about 50 yards away from where i was defending and find a new spot
5.drop clay(if possible) wait for the apc and tanks to go find a new flag.
then pick of any one close and leg it back and take the flag,
6.repeat till dead
again it depends on the situation for me,that tactic i use at the start and end of a map to keep my team m8 spawn points going.
also depends on the map,the above favors city maps,
if im on a more open map with air power,
i shoot attackchoppers, landing blackhawks or the ppl that jump from them.
i used to play lonewolf untill i got used to the maps and m95 but now i get more points defending and being in a squad.
my tip for leding a running target is,if target is not sprinting FIRE then he will, lead until he stamina runs out then FIRE again, yes it not a garanted kill but u have a better chance than when there in full sprint(unless they are running down you LOS (i mean from the top of crosshair to the bottom)
a running taget from left tp right of youre crosshair is harder and only practice gives you the feel.
im no expert as there are lots of ppl with more snipertime than me but all my sniper time bar say 30-40mins is with m95 and i have 59%accuracy with it,
have had a good read with other ppl sniper style very good :)

actually, with the bolt rifles, the bolt is triggered by you letting go of the firing button. If you hold it down, you can continue looking through the scope to see where your shot landed. Bullet travel has nothing to do with it
Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?
I practice the art of no scope-ing...this is just for fun to have people like "Zomg you kill me without skope!" you have to find exactly where the bullet goes when your gun is not on scope and you put a pice of tape on your screen where the bullet goes and than you shoot someone than take out the pisol and dead.(diffrent guns dont hit in the same place
Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?
When there is a stationary target, i move my crosshairs for a head shot, but on a moving target i wait for them to enter my crosshairs for a body shot. I then fire again with my pistol or rifle (depends on distance). if i think they saw me, i leave a clay and move to a new position where i can see my old one. This normally gets 2 kills on the same guy!
Just try that, and you get good K/D ratios usually.
EDIT:
Also, only use the L96A1 where you can, then the M95. The L96A1 is accurate enough to get head shots at least 50% of the time.
