I wish we could. Then I'd have like 500 more points added to my total. :p

But, to answer your question directly, no. The best you'll get is a kill damage assist if you hit your enemy and don't kill him, but a teammate kills him.

I don't know if anyone of you has tried this but I've played alot lately as squadleader and sniper and moving with the squad.

I still play lonewolf alot but the squad thing is excellent because you automatically tend to hold back with a sniperrifle, giving the squad a fairly stable spawnpoint and sniping the odd enemy that your squad is firing on often results in a kill because they almost always lose health because of your squadmembers' shooting aswell ^^

It's not a typical approach to sniping but it's very rewarding and good fun too, especially because the aim-penalty for shooting while moving isn't that bad

There is no bullet travel time in BF2. Seriously, there is none.

Please explain why leading the shot is necessary for running victims .

You dont if you are playing on a >10 ping server. Otherwise it could be lag, it could be buggy hitboxes, hell if I know, but there is no bullet time travel in bf2.

edit: This is ofcourse from personal experience, but if someone has proof that there is bullet travel in BF2, then feel free to present it here in this thread.

Lol, there is, mate, I play at 20ms ping. I do snipe from far away, usually at >= 300 meters.

              Cheers

I'm just going to go ahead and quote a post by a user on these forums called Bird Killer:

BF1942 and BF:Vietnam was indeed a hit-scan (or instant bullet hit) game, it was under the illusion of bullet travel because of the way the game reacts to ping. Sure, the gun might look as if it's firing instantly when you click the mouse, but in reality, your gun actually doesn't fire instantly, there's a delay depending on your ping.

Believe me, I was under the same belief as you are now believing, but after some tests with my ping being at 0 (Co-op/single-player) and my ping being at 300, the game itself doesn't have bullet travel, it's just a delay of your gun actually being fired without showing.

If you guys don't believe, I suggest playing single player where your ping is at 0. Pick the sniper rifle and find a target at very long range. If the gun manages to hit the target you'll see that the hit-detection comes up almost instantly. Now play in a server where you get 200-300 ping, do the same experiment and you'll see it'll take about .5 seconds or more for the hit-detection to show up.
What he is trying to say is that when you shoot it takes a short amount of time before the server registers your shot, and that amount of time is your ping. After that the server has to check the location of the other player, and that that time is his ping. So even if you are playing on a 20ms server it takes 40ms before you know if you hit the guy or not.

I have tried it in Single player too, same results. If there is no bullet travel then leading the shot still works regardless of my ping.

That is close to impossible or share luck. If you want to hit them when running. It really depends on the rifle you use. And to be perfectly honest, I used the M95 for nearly 75 hours, and it's become a habit of feel, really, hard to give guidelines. Exercise makes perfect. That is my only Tip!

I hear ya buddy, am just getting used to the M95 and it seems to be the best rifle for me, aint got a lot of hours yet but am getting better, i like to hide and wait for the kill, and like you say practice makes perfect!

how can you possibly hit anything from 300m (AVERAGE!!) with the so unaccurate m95 ?!

Re: Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?

I have two little methods. One is one that i've just recently discovered. If you want to get loads of kills, request a supply drop placed right in the open, but still convenient for your enemy to visit. Boy oh boy, did i get a lot of kills that way. And i was also on the ground, using the ghillie suit to my advantage, because, it just may be me, but ghillie suits don't really help atop an urban building.

Tip #2 Flank the enemy. If they are spawning at Base A and attacking at base B, you want to be firing perpenidicular to their line of attack. (Yes, applying dreaded geometry to "real life" situations!) I was crouching in a bush, relatively close to their position being a sniper and all, and was just nailing the guys that were trying to snipe with their little l85's.

Oh, and by the way, I use the bolt-action L96. Just love the sound.

                          - Find the video showing proof for the bullet drop, its around here somewhere in the forum.

                          - the m95 is now (with 1.2) only as accurate as the user, it isnt the garbage a lot of noob snipers think it is.

Umm...you get kill dmg assists if you do 50% dmg to a target and then they are killed by something else.

You do damage if you hit them in the legs but I don't think the weapon.

Well. anything at good distance. like 300m+ distance. you have bullet drop. aim a hair higher then you usually do.

also hiding in plain sight is better then your common high up sniper spots. but dont sacrifice view for safety. ive seen many snipers basically give up all their view so that they dont ever die.

Id rather have 50 kills and 15 deaths. Then 15 kills and 1 death.

Umm yes there is, for all weapons.

Some just have so little travel time that you don't notice it.

And even with zero lag you still must lead target.

Play singleplayer and try it out yourself...

Anyways, you should use the m24 or L96....dead accurate and if you have skill hitting spriting targets in the head is....quite possible.

All sniper rifles are almost dead accurate now....but m95 still isn't as accurate as the other ones...

                                I use both m95 and l96.
