Sniper Tactics: What do you find that works best?

Ok, there are plenty of pro's and noob's playing sniper. Im sure all of us have tips and tricks that we have learned through game play that help us have an advantage over others.

So what are some of them?

The l96a1 scope has notches, they are very useful AT 100 Meters the first notch to either side is when the enemy is running but not sprinting perpindiclar to your POV. The second notch is for a spirting opponent perpindicular to your POV. The rest are at your own assumption for vehicles.

Heres what I did in 1.12, doesn't work anymore but it was SOOO effective.

Lets say its sniper vs. sniper and you are both laying down on buildings, yours is a bit higher than his...or whatever situation it is, as long as you are out of LOS.

I kept pressing Z time after time maybe 10 times in a row going prone to stand prone to stand every time I was zoomed in and every time I went up, I moved my mouse a bit to position my crosshairs on the other guy's head.

He couldn't get off a good shot as I kept disappearing.

Anyways eventually i just hit Z the last time to stand up, left clicked...and hes dead.

I did that alot, worked great in 1.12.

Now because of dolphin divers, I can't do that anymore.

if he is running 90 dagrees to you aim just infront of the head, not much at all, everyone for some reason things you aim like a foot or 2 ahead, and i hate noob snipers, i have no respect for them, only the snipers who have been sniping the whole time.

I am not a pro sniper, have only 30h with the kit, but I do have 1000 kills with sniper rifles and 57% acuracy with them , here are some tips .

- when sniping go for the head , is one shot to kill
- since 1.2 also use the SVD , this is now as acurate as the M24 was before, but no bolt action, so it's perfect for making one headshot after another
- if using M95/M24/L96 , if you hit but enemy is not death, no prob, if he is not like on the other side of the map, just switch to pistol and finish him
- sniping spots , don't use the obvious spots , sometimes they are good like high buildings, but spots on the ground (in a dark corner) or a bush can be even effective or sometimes more effective .
For example on karkand, the streets are divide with some bushes, just lie in there, nowbody expect a person in there and you can snipe.

when getting hit by something and you don't know from where it comes, just move to another place .

Remember patience, you cant get them all. Go for the m95, ok you have to be more accurate but you dont give your position away so easily.

Aim for the Head, Chest, and I find the back of the neck is a real sweet spot.

make sure you have a good killing zone, there is no point aiming at a 5m wide alley if the enemy is running crossways, get them into open ground. Be patient, they cant sprint forever and always aim for the head, unless there is an enemy sniper below you and you can just see his arse

I like places you know an enemy will come out ... like the doorway of a heavy traffic alley.

Also, keep your crosshairs near the enemy you or some one just killed, usually a medic will run along and revive giving u another chance to take a shot.

I personally find getting them where they have to run right towards you or away to get to an objective is the best. Makes lining up a shot really easy.:p Also, Lay Claymores immediately around corners where the enemy will come running, good free kills that can even happen once you've already died.

If you get a body mass shot that doesn't kill the guy whip out the pistol and spray him down. Unless he's a support guy you'll kill him with one pistol shot.

I've unlocked all three sniper rifles and every once in a blue moon I snipe. My only problem is I still havn't figured out how to lead the shots. I know BF2 has some sort of impact prediction but I still find myself having to lead shots even with other classes...
With say... An average ping of 100 about how much do you guys think I should lead targets running or sprinting perpendicular to my line of sight? "A little bit in front of their head" isn't very helpful.

Lol, with almost close to a 100 hours of sniper only gameplay. I'm stunned by your question. You are wanting to shoot an enemey while running in the head? That is close to impossible or share luck. If you want to hit them when running. It really depends on the rifle you use. And to be perfectly honest, I used the M95 for nearly 75 hours, and it's become a habit of feel, really, hard to give guidelines. Exercise makes perfect. That is my only Tip!

. . . Practice? If your forum name = your in-game name, you have very few hours as a sniper. Good tips will not replace practice and experience.

Maybe you can talk to one of the lone-wolf snipers (you know, the ones you call "noobs") and get him to help you in game.

I agree Darksniper. It's something that sorta "clicks" (no pun intended) into place as to when to take your shot when leading your enemy.

My best advice is to factor in bullet travel, i.e., how long it will take for your bullet to reach your enemy. The farther away your enemy is, the longer it'll take for your bullet to get to him. Keeping this in mind, apply it to when you lead your shots at moving enemies. The ones that are farther away, you have to lead a little bit more than the ones who are closer. It takes time to get the feel for this, but practice makes for improvement.
