    URGENT!! Errors after format

I've just formatted my PC with KillDisk, I added a partition.

It thinks that my main Hard Drives are H and I. Not C. I have a Photosmart 2600 which makes 3 removable drives for some strange reason and one of them is C. My CD drives are F and G. Now you may not think this is serious but when I try to install and run programs like Ad-Aware it says this: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \device\harddisk1\dr3.

    I need a reply urgently!!!!

Edit: Presumably dr3 means 'disk removable 3?'

DUDE you are headed down a disaster area.
STOP. Save(back up) what you want ANYWAY you can(theres a bunch)
BOOT from your OS's installation CD
    Delete ALL PARTITIONS
    ReCreate the partitions you want
FORMAT & Reinstall your OS onto the Boot Partition (C)
Then your set- just format whatever other partitions you have
    from windows disk manager.

Thanks for the reply. Could the printer have taken priority with the drives and taken the C drive?

So, I'll do what you told me..

BTW, when I created a partition it asked me to format the partition H, which is what it was before and then it asked me if I wanted to format another partition (I).

I have another program called Partition Magic, so I think I'll install XP (minus paritions) and then partition it with Partition Magic.

make sure you don't have anything plugged in that you don't need to have plugged in. reformat and reinstall.

            Re: URGENT!! Errors after format

When I open up my desktop I get this notepad file open up:

When I boot it also says 'xxxx.cab missing. skip autocheck' after the windows page closes and before the user select page.

How can I stop these things happening?

              Re: URGENT!! Errors after format

It looks like the missing Cabnet file has prevented part of shell32.dll (a core kernal file) from loading or installing. Short of reinstalling the OS you can place the CD in the drive and use SFC

The System File Checker tool checks and repopulates the SystemRoot%\System32\Dllcache folder. If the Dllcache folder becomes damaged or unusable, you can use either the sfc /scanonce or sfc /scanboot command to repair the contents of the folder.

You can access it at the command prompt or via Start/Run then reboot to let to work.

When I re-formatted my other PC it wasn't as bad as this. lol. I simply formatted it and installed XP, no other problems
