What works for one, will not automatically work for all. If it does work for you though, continue on using that method for sure.
The dominant theory however is that you SHOULD get rid of all your old vid card drivers (NVIDIA or ATI), before installing new ones.
Unless your previous card was ATI you better remove old drivers but if you upgrade from one Nvidia driver to another then there is no need. Ive done it for a year, and my system is stable. Not to mention, I get great FPS and no slowdowns.
