    PKM from PKM.

Well I know theres a massive amount of post and thoughts on the Support weapon boost, so I figured Id throw in my 2 cents from a long time PKM user.

I started BF2 in Aug, fell in love with the PKM...
Started a new user name dedicated to my love for this gun. Since Aug 30 of last year I have strictly played Support on urban maps, sometimes switching kits to help the team or being an engy when I felt the recent urge to do some tank mayhem.
Im not god like but in the last 6 months Ive compiled a lil over 7k kills with the beast. I taught myself every technique from CQC to long range sniping, it was a pain I must admit. Ive died nearly 6k times with the PKM in my hand, but I never cared.
Yes its god like now I know...and I can say this honestly cause after 100 hours as support I tend to think Im a bit of an authority on the impact of the change.

Before the change the PKM had its moments of glory..and agonizing moments of beign just plain crap. I remeber times laying out 30+ shells at enemies within inches of me to come out as me being the one who ended up dieing.
So in some aspect I have to give it up to EA for finally making it as effective as it should be under 10-20 feet.

Now sniping before..well it wasnt really sniping, it was more spraying burst to hold back enemies or let a sniper $hiting his pants enough to shimmy back away from the ledge he was peeping over. A small amount of times I would come up with a kill do to previous dmg or proper leading and adjustments of spray.
Now I can land 1-2 shots nearly 80% of the time at long ranged enemies without adjusting or spreading my spray...so now long range has become a burst to inflict serious dmg..then a spray and pray for the killing blow...and this works damn well

Now my gripes and what not...

Well firstly..I felt like me effectively using the PKM has been dumbed down to make it user friendly. After learnign the techniques it took to use the bastard the boost EA gave it fliped me into god mode.
But..they in turn kicked me in the balls by nerfing prone.
Having a gun that relies on prone means having to drop at any given time, so killing an enemy then jumping up to run just as another enemy rears his head...means me spamming prone as I eat lead.
Before watching nooblets run around with there LMGs firing standing up made me giggle as they ate my bullets...now, Ive been mowed down by people shooting there LMG's standing up..what gives?
And lastly...yes its much better and yes it has recieved a sizable bump, but any good player will be able to quicky dispose of a support guy if they have a G3, G36E or a sniper rifle. Being a class that requires prone leaves that head shot open, a direct path.

I took pride in my abilty to use the worst accuracy gun, ability to hold back an enemy do to my cover..but now Im scared every moderately good player is gonna jump on the LMG and give us true support addicts a bad name.

So if PKM gets you with his PKM, dont call me a noob please. Ive busted my balls for months wasting shells on the wall behind as you poped me off, and Ive spent many hours holdign back squads while my mates capped or ran across a street or area.

note: might say I play Spec Ops most..but lets be honest, Support is useless on any map besides Karkand, Masturr, Sharqi...yes I play urban mostly, but while Im flying or in a map with many many tanks C4 and the G36C are (WAS) the best kit to have handy if you have to eject from a plane, worry about enemy tanks, or have to deal with infantry at range.

Playing support is extremely handy now on maps with mobile AA.

I'm very interested the below 20 ft effectiveness of the new PKM.
I'm trying it 2nite , god knows how many times support players died of very close fire even after firing a half round.

I feel your pain dude. Amusingly, about 3 weeks ago I took a break from my usual healing routine to try out the support and sniper classes. people bitched about them sucking but after deciding to invest some time I really came to love them both and became fairly proficient in each. I found them both to be severely under-rated. Now I really feel like my my privacy has been severly violated with the influx of these new users. I really liked having my own little niche but alas, it's no more I fear.

I'd say 1% of them. I have no problems with it unless I come face to face with an MG36/G36 at extreme close range.

          EDIT: That was @ Majordomo

Point taken, I don't have this sig for nothing.
Still I'm curious to find a difference.

Very good post. The only objection that I have is that the LMG's right know are totally inefective against choppers. It takes forever to destroy it. I have forgotten how was it before since it's been a while since I was playing support, even though I put over 60 hours with this kit when I started playing last June.

Never really use Support, I have more kills with the knife then Support class.

I, as a sniper, am absolutely hating the new level of accuracy that has been given to the LMG's. I've been sniping almost exclusively ever since the demo, and have rarely been owned by any class to such an extent, or at all, as I am now by the support class.

I am being sniped by support players. As much as you supportists might love it, I can't help but feel that it is unbalanced. The sheer shift of player focus from the assualt class to the support class, to me, is evidence of this.

So, as you guys continue to mow down hapless range-intended opponents, spare a thought for us, the now somewhat obselete snipers.

                      Oh give me a break!

Consitering the boost you got to the sniper rifle accuracy, I'd link you'd be dancing for joy.

I'm a useless sniper, but I went into some unranked servers (I didn't wanna hammer my KDR any badly than it is) to play around with the changes. My god... the things are like lasers now. I mean *I* hit stuff!

I'm looking at all the weapon tweaks collectively. Yeah, the PKM is a monster... but have you played with the G3? Puts people down with just as few hits, has a faster rate of fire, and just rules a CQC. I put down a bunch of snipers with that toy.

A true 'class player' plays his class on every map mostly all of the time

WE ALWAYS NEED SUPPORT PLAYERS ON EVERY MAP!

This is true, however in order to snipe with the PKM you gotta be prone wich makes you prime for the head shot. The way I see it, this is going to weed out the lucky snipers from the skilled ones.

Man, it would be really easy to say something... um... less than polite here, but seeing as you only have 5 posts I'll be nice(ish).

What exactly do you think a sniper does when he sniperizes?
Does he stand there in the middle of a rooftop, presenting himself to all other snipers?

                            Nope. He goes prone.
So what does the support needing to go prone have anything to do with it being a drawback when in a longrange shoot out?

And what, exactly, does this have anything to do with "going to weed out the lucky snipers from the skilled ones"?

Lucky sniper/skilled sniper, the PKM doesn't care. It's more than happy to chew up either.

Now if you want to talk about what advantages a sniper has over a support kit...
See that funky tube sorta thing on the top of your rifle? It's called a "Scope". That's your advantage.

Machine guns have longer heavier barrels and are more accurate than assualt rifles because they are bigger and heavier and resist recoil better. I have read books where it stats that in WW2 soldiers had success at sniping people firing single shots by lining them up with the sights. I havn't had a problem with dealing with the PKM post 1.2.
