Earning original vanilla BF2 medals while playing SF?

Do stats gained while playing SF count at all towards medals for vanilla BF2?
Or are they completely seperate, so you can never earn a vanilla BF2 medal while playing SF?

Yes you can earn Vanilla medals in SF, but you cant earn SF medals in vanilla :)

Whats ironic is that if im playing Special Forces and win an SF class medal, i am automatically given the original BF 2 medal too.

So i have had a few games where i won both metals in the same game for the same stats.
