    Static Mesh Rendering

The 1.2 patch readme mentions a performance improvement for "static mesh rendering".

Would someone mind giving a simple explanation of what this is exactly and where in the game exactly I might find this performance improvement?

    Re: Static Mesh Rendering

improved static mesh rendering IMO would simply be increased speed of the building of statics (objects on battlefield tht are not player controlled) by your PC ingame... if you havent noticed an increase in speed already then you probably wont get much of a difference on your system it probably is only a miniscule improvement and not something you could go out of your way to "find"

DICE keeps their engine details heavily underwraps, so we can only guess at what they might have done. Im hoping this is in direction relation though to the special forces maps. If anyone has played Iron Gator or Warlord on an average computer, you will see just how much lag there is around the large indoor areas. The most likely improvement they have made, maybe through a type of culling system, to remove polys, which are not directly in the view of the player or they may have added batch rendering of models. Im not sure if the engine already supports batch rendering but basically with batch rendering, you can have the same model added multiple times to a level and the processing and graphical power is rendered to almost rendering just one of the objects. Its a bit more complicated than that and not exact but in a nutshell thats what it is.

Yeah, Iron Gator and Warlord are the only 2 maps where my FPS actually drops to totally unplayable levels. It's caused by dynamic lighting, btw. Turning it off and no more massive fps drops in crowded areas.

They just modified the shaders quite alot to improve the static mesh rendering.
