today when i went on my comp, the windows update pop up on the taskbar and then afetr 10 secs went away. the next time i went on it did the same thing. im afraid my updater is screwing up. i dont have a genuine version of XP so i cant download them of the website. does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

it just means it A is hiding itself, normal.
B. pops up because it needs to check for updates, and then dissapears because there arent any. I HIGHLY doubt there is anythnig wrong with your updater. No need to worry. In control panel, you can change the Windows Update Settings.
