I failed to see a gun that can't hit with in 5 meters is fun even for an arcade game. PKM being too good? then stop trying to run across open field of fire.

also, assualt rifle still have higher accuracy and damage (times to kill)

This is great, a suppression weapon that can be used for suppression. All these 'noobs' going support is kind of nice in a way...because there is an abundant supply of ammo now.

The MG's in Day Of Defeat Source are even worse than these ones and somehow that game lives on...

somehow, when a person kills you with all the aiming skill in FPS, he becomes a noob depends on what kinds of gun he uses.

I can kill well with a MP7, but new PKM just accelerates that process.

1st of all, pkm is the best and thats how it should be! for fauks sake the vannila unlocks should be better than the spec forces! they should be designed for the vinnala versoin and suit the vanilla. the spec forces should be for spec forces, and if some kid is gonna spend all his time playing specail forces and expect to own all the vanilla players with his sweet unlocks HE should be the one who gets eaten like a snack, and i still dont see how spec ops have more firepower than any other kit its just way to overbalanced. they completely own support kits just by running around in various directions then pointing and shooting, when the support kit cant move at all, and FORGet about REALIZM for god sakes, You shouldnt care if its realistic or unrealistic because its a game, start thinking about how the game works than how the world works if you actually want to know what to do ffs.

i totally agree with alcorr here that pre 1.2 the LMG were pretty good, if you knew how to use them, after 1.2 i am quite annoyed that anyone with just a little skill can pick up the MG36 or PKM and become a honest to god killing machine, while i took alot of time to master both the MG36 and the PKM

Which is great because you can't access the SF unlocks in SF games unless they're your kit default (in other words, unless you're SAS)

And yes, the PKM needs to be nerfed. Badly. And I say that as someone who plays support constantly, it's WAY too easy to kill people from any distance now.

And yes, LMGs are supposed to be powerful, but they're also supposed to be BALANCED. Right now, they are absolutely not, they are just as good as assault rifles at long range and even worse up close.

                Re: PKM vs. MG36

isn't the whole point of SUPPORT is supporting troops at medium/long range with sacrifice to agility?

Yes. MGs are SUPPOSED to be powerful, even more so than assualt rifle seeing that we don't have tube.

                  Re: PKM vs. MG36

The Support class is meant to support. That means they're carrying many pounds of ammo, and are not going to be rushing enemy positions. This is where EA has it wrong.

Right now, I can easily take out three or four enemies by charging at them, going prone, and firing full auto. It's silly, to be honest. All EA need to do is to give the deploy ability, and the support class could be balanced easily. But no, so here's another idea: Make it take at least three to five seconds before full accuracy is achieved, and only when the player is prone. That's probably the best idea...

You could do that BEFORE. It makes sense that the belt-fed autocannon is gonna be deadly up close. The difference is that before it sucked at long range BAD, and needed to be sprayed for midrange efficiency, which was the tradeoff you made when playing support. Made you great at smashing flag defenses, but forced you to get in close.

Now, it owns at all ranges. It's stupid, it takes no effort, and if you're in a support's crosshairs for more than a split second now, you'd better be in a vehicle or you're dead.

                      Re: PKM vs. MG36

if you are in a good player's crosshair you deserve to be dead.

what would happen if I go up against you? I found that you are shoting at me, I will retreat, pop a smoke gernade or just noob tube you, or I can flank you as a spec op, I can out range you as a medic with G36E and unlimited supply of medic pack or as a sniper, I can AT snipe you with missile, or I can even go up close to you, bunnyhopping, and blast you with MK3A1.

maybe for those who is experienced with CS, machinegun should suck and assualt rifle should dominate, but in reality, support (which is the true anti-infantry class) should dominante. and really, support isn't good for assualt because it requires a prone to be useful, so it cannot win the game just by itself. score is really irrevelant here.

0.4 seconds. Three bullets. That's how long it takes to die once a PKM starts shooting at you. Good luck reacting fast enough (you'll spend 1/4 of that time just clearing the latency), especially now that it's more accurate than an assault rifle.

EDIT -- Oops, it's 0.267 seconds, because the first bullet starts at zero. Even better! How much of that is your ping again?

Before, that was offset by the fact that the bullets would seldom hit unless you were really close, so you basically had to spray and rely on the sheer volume of lead to score some hits. Now it's basically a full-auto SVD with almost no recoil.

support isn't good for assualt because it requires a prone to be useful, so it cannot win the game just by itself. score is really irrevelant here.
Being forced to prone meant nothing. If anything it just adds to the confusion.

And no, neither assault rifles or LMGs should dominate. Before, it didn't. You had to get in close, and then you'd own them, but you were vulnerable before then. It was the same thing as playing anti-tank with DAO, except you didn't have to reload in the middle of the fight constantly, could give other people ammo, and were effective at a longer range.

                          Just to interject...

If you think support guns are overpowered, you should try runnin around with the new and improved G3.

I spent some time with the PKM and was lovin the carnage. Finally, I could set up an firing angle and do something with it. Crossing my field of fire ment one more kill fer me.

The next round, I desided to see how the G3 stacks up. Oh wow! I thought I was doing damage before! One particularly tastey moment occured when I saw 3 troops taking position on a hill at a mid-longish range. 3 3 shot bursts and each of 'em was doing the death flop. Another good one was coming around a corner and finding myself amungst a bunch of bad guys (6, I think). I freaked (of cource) and pulled the trigger. Laid out another 3 of 'em before the guy standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME put his shotty to my head.

Basicly what I'm saying is yeah... the support guns are perty nasty now, but other weapons have been boosted to the same sorta level. I'm perty happy with the balance.

Back in the day, way way back, when Day of Defeat (Non-source) had just been released, the MG42 was insanely powerful. It was my weapon of choice. When I was in position, nothing would get past me.

The sound of ripping canvas spelt doom. later, they made the firing cone a lot larger, and the MG34 took the place of the MG42 for accurate supression.

I still have fond memories of shredding whole squads with that weapon, then running like holl before the grenades landed.

So you are telling me. that sniping with the PKM is realistic

and for mid, and low range a deadly weapon.

Very true 100m shots are not very difficult with the new super PKM.
