    AA, flares...

I really didnt like aa in pre 1.2 versions of bf2. I had a 7/1 jet ratio before 1.2, my ratio will probobly just go up due to tactics (staying away from ground aa when not attacking it, watching my six, and releasing my flares at the right time). As a pilot it seemed too easy to rape the ground and excessivly hard to take out air from both the air and the ground. Also prior to 1.2, there was a lot of friendly fire problems with aa. In 1.2, the aa was fixed by letting aa make extreamly hard turns, this allows a missile to catch up with a hard turning jet, so if a jet is out of flares, aa will hit it. I perfer 1.2 aa to previous versions, but i still have problems with how it works.

One problem is that since missiles turn on a dime, you end up tking more people. Ive shot a missile at an enemy helicopter on the carrier on wake that missed and hit a friendly attack helicopter that was taking off at the airfield. Also a missile can miss you but since its still locked, it stays with you, winding all around you untill it hits. Ive also noticed that missiles go after flares that arent even near the lock or the missile flight path to lock.

In my opinion, the way to both fix the tk problem and the "strange" missile physics, is to confine the missile to a cone in the direction it was fired and give missiles a detonation radius to targert. What i mean is that when you get a tone, you have a targetting circle that if you turn out of, you lose the tone. If it was made so the missile was confined to a cone from that cicle, we a) wouldnt have missiles completly changing direction, and b) would have a new skill element to aa, "leading your target". Also, if missiles had a detonation radius to target, they would blow up when they get close enough to the jet to damage it, rather than flying around it untill they detonate.

another thing that i think would add a new skill element to jets while improving survivability to good pilots is if flares were ammo rather than rechargeable. you get three flare groups to be used at your disgression, but must be rearmed rather than regenerated. This would make it so a pilot would have a greater chance of lossing an enemy jet on thier tail, if they conserve thier flares and use them at the right time.

the flares help, but don't help a lot, today I was in a AA site, chopper in vision, he drops flares, I lock on to flares but do shoot (wasn't meaning to) misiles goes to flare and then just took a freaking straight angle up to the chopper lol , new AA is absolutely nonsence .

Then for fun, I started a local , and start shooting at the flames on top of a iol well, then this happens, misile goes to flame, and takes a 90 degree angle to the next one

thats why i suggested a detonation to target radius, so when you lock onto the flare, when the missile gets close it detonates.

That would be great. put AA and plane life back. But have that instead.

Dogfights are so unseen lately. But i was dogfighting a f-35b vs j10

I lock on. he flares. I shot one. I relock but now hes doing a tight turn upwards. I usually never shoot because well they never hit. But new patch i said the hell with it. i shoot 3 and all 3 hit. and i killed on 2. the 3rd hit the dead plane.

and whats even more unusual is the crazy unnatural arc the missle had compared to the smoke trail.

Now I was also in AA. and i shot at a plane. these were definately going to hit. but a barrel roll knocked them off. So i think this might be a good defense.

I was watching a missle follow me using the rear view, BOY THAT WAS A CRAZY SITE. That missle zig-zagged at blazing speed and followed my split-s afterburning turn and I released my flare. It hits, yes missles are crazy

1)my suggestion had nothing to do with augmenting the current 1.2 plane health, which in my opinion is fine.
            2) dogfights arent unseen, they just are more modern than previous bf2 versions. what i mean is, in old school fighter combat, there was no missiles, now there is. its not a dogfight of cannon him to death anymore, its a dogfight of not letting an enemy on your tail, and getting on his.

I had this happen to me on Dalian Plant the other day. I flared and the guy popped off two AA's. We died and you know how you can see the smoking carcass of the Cobra in death and stuff.... Well I could also see the smoke left behind from the missiles. It showed that they had gone after the flares and then STRAIGHT UP into the chopper after going through the flares.

I also had someone shoot two AA's at me later and was amazed to see the missiles get confused with which target to find. Much like the oil derek incident I showed you all on Zatar Wetlands, the missiles were spinning around and going crazy all over the place finally landing on me after I had flared.
