Practicing Flying Choppers and Jets

I was reading a different thread here on the board and it got me thinking...

What single player maps are good for getting some practice time in with an attack chopper and jets? I want to get better, nowadays I'm always getting in choppers knowing that it will be mere minutes before I lose control and go face first into a building or tree.

Also, a question for those of you that are good at flying with a keyboard and mouse: Do you adjust the sensitivity of your mouse to fly, or do you use the standard settings?

(Single Player) to learn the basics of flying in helicopter gunships

Setting sensitivity to each of these vehicles to match your preference is a must.

I have always used the keyboard and mouse for choppers and a MS Sidewinder 2 for jets. I am by no means an expert on either and I have no idea what to tell ya on single player. I usually find an empty wake server and practice both.

I turn mouse sensitivity to 3.5 ( i use ms intellimouse optical w/ sens. adjust)
Pitch & Yaw set to 6. ( Adjust this in conjunction w/ your mouse settings)

Keyboard and mouse is a must for Attack Helo's! (At least it's my pref) I've tried to fly helos w/ a joystick and find that the precision is just aweful. I'm a pretty damn good pilot, and the thing that got me good was flying w/ the second view. (Inside w/o the chopper model, just the HUD) And you should probably invert your mouse as well, helps a ton!!

Just keep practicing, choppers have a steep learning curve, but once you master it, and if you're a good pilot for teamplay (w/ your gunner), then you're indispensible to your team. (Pre 1.2) Haven't patched my client yet. The fact that I'm an awesome pilot in 1.12 is probably a moot point now that 1.2 is out (or so I hear)

If you can spare it, I would recommend a new joystick. I had a Sidewinder 2 and I thought it was fine until I tried other joysticks. It seemed really unsmooth, and they have a tendency to go really loose and wobbly. Personally I recommend the Saitek Cyborg Evo but others like the Logitech Extreme 3D. Good luck, doing well in dogfights has gotten a lot easier so have fun!

I've maxed out the sensitivity and pitch/yaw multipliers in options. I don't think this is a good idea to start with. Turn the sensitivity up so that you barely have control until it's bottomed out. You may never even be able to max it out but sensitivity is mostly personal preference anyway.

Flying single player is a great idea. I got my introductory helo training on DC and on the BF2-demo. But nowadays single player is advised.

try Operation Cleansweap for practising and if you got a little better Dalian Plant. First try to understand how will the plane/helo reflect your coordination. use KEYBOARD ONLY and when you feel you are ready for a realy fight buy a joystick, its so much better than stuped mose config...

I support the mouse and keyboard for the chopper. tried it with my joystick and didn't care for it. my main issue was the throttle, I'm always messing with the throttle when flying and the joystick just doesn't allow it. At least not easily where the saitek cyborg evo has it. but the damn thing is amazing otherwise and great for planes. Joystick for the planes definately.
