    1.2 LAG = 64 Players servers only

I've done some troubleshooting and discovered that all the weird laggy gameplay wasn't related to my computer, connection or anything other than being on a 64 player server. Full or not they lagged hard.

I have a P4, 3.4, 2 gigs of ram, Audigy 2 zs, X800XT PE, and in the past I've been veyr happy playing with everything cept textures on high at 1280x1024 with 4x AA.

Installed 1.2 and logged onto one of my fav 64 player servers and it was friekin awful. Framerates would be fine one second and bottom out another. No reason I could see, just random slow downs. I turned all the settings down to low, joined another 64 player server, same issue, with absolute worst detail settings I was still getting lag!?

Defragged everything, deleted cache, started up the game in single player mode, works fine. (Woohoo) joined a 64 player server, framerates all over the place. WTF?

I joined a 32 player server and the game runs fine. Near as I can tell something has changed on the 64 player server software that is causing lag or jumpy gameplay. It seems like the cpu of the server just sisn't up to the new 1.2 code atm, and perhaps some adjustment is needed behind the scenes, but if you are seeing a lot of lag and choppy gameplay try jumping on a smaller server (not a 64 player server with only 32 playres on it) and see if the lag is still there.

      He's got plenty of ram.

The lag is directly related to your ping, i still find the ingame server browser unreliable after 1.2.
I use "All Seeing Eye" (google is your friend) to find servers, never play on a server that pings more than 50, especially a 64 player one.

I run BF2 @ 1600x1200 all settings high & 2xaa with frames from 90 down to mid 40's on 64 player maps, i appreciate my rig is a little unusual however i have clan buddys usin around the same specs as you & they are very happy with performance as long as we use ASE to find low ping servers.

      Good luck.

I thought that might be the case but after joining several different 64 players servers with pings as low as 25 and having never had these problems in the past I don't think there is anything wrong on my end.

The lag is not consistent in anyway. It has nothing to do with how many players, are aorund, or whats happening, it feels like the server is lagging and gameplay gets choppy, it doesn't skip exaclyt, just gets jumpy.

I'm seeing many ppl complain about this and I'm thinking this has something to do with the 64 player servers themselves. It's possible I suppose that the pings reported are completely erroneous and the lag I'm seeing is because I'm actually connected to a server with 200-300 pings, but that doesn't explain why everything works great on the servers with 32 players.

Bandwidth has never been a concern as i'm on Cable and upgraded to the 8mb down, I doubt there is anything more I could do to improve my pings.

I know exactly what you mean. On a 64 player server, the game is almost unplayable - i can't turn around quickly without the game lagging. The lag has got me killed on numerous occaisions. I'm sticking to smaller servers for now.

I might try SF to see how that is handling it. I was getting awful lag on SF regardless of the server, with no probs in vanilla BF2.
