freeze up on start- can see game working in background

I get a nasty freeze up on start up now and cannot play the game. Same for single player also. This happened after my pc crashed violently during the game.It freezes on the spawn select screen.

I think I need to do a reinstall. Patching didnt solve the problem. I had 1.12 and tried the patch to 1.2

same...

so im asking will I loose my medals and stats-i dont think so right? or are they stored locally and I should back something up.

Ok...if you mean that once a map is loaded, you are unable to do anything with the mouse or keyboard...then you need to do the following:

Go to Options->Controls and hit 'Reset to Defaults' and hit 'Apply'. Your controls configuration file got corrupted somehow.

Is the sf add on a real performance lagging beast? i heard it isnt great for that. I have picked up some sf kit in the normal bf2 and found all the cool weapons were available to me! this was great...

Im trying that reset of controls to default as we speak...YES IT WORKS NO NEED TO REINSTALL THANK YOU VERY MUCH TALUS

It was probably your firewall blocking BF2, after patching the game your BF2.exe file has changed, therefore your firewall may need telling it to allow BF2 access to the internet again, that's what i've found was most peoples problems who had freezes at startup, i run the tech support for my clanmates.

Btw, your scores medals etc are stored centrally, as for your profiles, when unistalling it will ask you if you want to keep them, select yes & don't delete them.
