===>> aircraft and AA -- my thoughts

    **anti flame disclaimer **------------------------------------------------------
please note, i personally dont have a problem with the new AA, i have a
LOT of experience with jets and still find it easy to avoid AA fire, but i now
speak for the majority of BF2 players who dont spend 90% of their time in planes.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as far as i can see (and this is only my opinion) it takes absolutely no skill to take down a new to moderately experienced pilot. someone who is new to BF can easily take down the majority of pilots by simply left clicking (which to me is not very fair)
i think AA should take at least some skill to use
EG you have to keep the crosshair on target for it to hit (like half life 2) or something similar, because now im seeing lots of new or unskilled players sat on AA all game knowing they can get easy kills

anyone got any contructive ideas to bring skill in to using AA ?

I dont know how you can have skill befor or after 1.20 patch, since you don't manually control the missle, the game code does, if they made where you can control the missle, then it would take some skill

Anyone in AA is a nice square on your HUD, you can point at him and fire bullets, or he can point at you in and fire missles. You can choose to come to him, he cant come to you, you have flares, he has nothing.

        What game are you playing

I have done a little bit of flying since patch and have only been shot down 5 times and have generated about 40 kills so 40:5 kd is not bad and im a crap pilot

The only people complaining about the AA are the pilots who thought they were great when now they realise that they are just crap

For every tactics, there is counter-tactics.

Get your teammates to snipe/knife guys sitting in AA. Easy kills for them. It'll probably be easier to get all those knife/pistol badges now. Just "browse" the AA sites :)

If you can't get them to do it, then move to other server(s), more teamplay oriented.

Oh man... you sure make AA sound like the poor boy in this situation. Gimme a break, sure the pilot's hud tells them where you are... but he can't lock onto you and fire 2.

Totally agree. The missiles are fire and forget. They are just too good. Like you said a noob can come on and take down a very experienced pilot. I myself have spent years playing USAF, Microsoft Flight Sim, Etc Etc. I know manoeuvres, when to deploy chaff etc but none of it works in BF2. I know it isnt a flight sim but still you should have a reasonable amount of defense against stingers and such. In the old patch i always used to 'Track' the target i was locked on with my AA radar to make sure the missiles hit that is what some people never did and they wondered how i kept shooting them down. But now there is no skill in it anymore. Its about as fun as juggling with nitro-glycerin. I hope they bring out a better patch SOON!!!!!

              my two pence.

                Yup what he said.

Thats all there really is to all this controversy. Bunch of wannabe pilots who couldn't fly in the first place.

Go do something else that would H E L P your team.

Actually, the biggest whiners are those who got used to rape carriers and uncap bases (easiest kills, that's how many of them managed to rack 60+ kills in a round - either with planes or attack choppers).

Carrier can defend itself now, which is GREAT.

before it did take some skill, the skill was in the moment of fireing and aiming , for example

when a chopper is not moving towards you or moving away from you, you needed to aim after the chopper , not at, so the misile could take it's turn

when having a lock, don't fire directly, wait a bit untill he releases flares and then just after flares are gone shoot .

Now, don't wit, don't aim anywhere, just get in and shoot, it will hit

This is insane keep the complaints about the AA in one thread. Instead of bitching about it you guys should be out there practicing how to avoid the missles or how to do a half-second burst with the cannon to kill them. I've seen a lot of comments from 'new' pilots and they say that they're easy to avoid and not that bad...but then all these 'experienced pro' pilots are saying there is no way to avoid them. Not sure what's going on here.

menace-uk you must be effing stupid, read my post, i personally dont have a problem with the AA.

again, im saying this on behalf of 'most' bf2 players that decide to fly for a while

i very rarely used AA in the past (because it didnt work), but i tried yesterday, basically i wait for a plane to fly over, then jump into the seat, click click and hes dead - rediculous

and whoosh, i just checked you pilot stats, you are the wannabe pilot my friend (now i hold my breath for 'its the lag that kills me' excuse)
