You mean FF turned off? I thought FF on was default (even though 1.2 gave admins the option). So you WOULD need to pick up your own mines.

        Maybe you just mis-typed.
I always confures FF on/off. You can drive over friendly mines and clymores without them blowing up.

I'm going to have to try this. I play engineer a lot anyway but this is great news to me.

I don't understand why we can't use explosives to destroy mines.

That's what the military do if needed, string out (or shoot out) a long line of explosives and detonate it, any mine withing so many feet on each side of ti will be taken out.

Why not have it that way with C4 or missles?

And just to finish things up, servers can now set FF especially for mines.

So FF can be ON for mines and OFF for everything else.

                  Another question then.

How do i tell if mine is friendly or enemies ?

Last night there was no red skull on friendly mines and obviously the same on enemies !!

How do we now know which we can drive over ??

No flames, its a genuine question from someone requiring an intelligent answer.

If you get a skull it means that it's a mine put down by someone on your team.

If the server has FF off for mines then you can drive over it, even though I got the red skull. I played on several servers yesterday and all had FF off for mines so maybe it's the default setting.

A friendly mine can though at times not have a skull and still be active if the engineer who dropped it has died recently (less than 20 seconds?).

So if I lay a mine I see a skull, but if I die and respawn back at the same spot I can see my mine still in place without the skull, but it'll still be active until either it disappears or I begin to lay more mines (can't have more than 5 at any one time).

                      Thanks ptegan

however i played shonghua last night and ff was off and there was mines everywhere ( cos its heavy armour map ) and i couldnt tell difference.

Saw a mine drove over it nothing happened, did same bit later and BOOM, dead Dodg3r. HHMmmmmmmm WTF !!!

If you can't se the red skull warning over friendly explosives try pressing ALT.

This magical button toggles the explosives warnings. At least for me it does.

I thought that big red square with the Skull watermark was more than enough to warn players an explosive was at the vicinity.

Nope and people complained and that's why DiCE changed it with this patch and now people are dropping claymores to block doorways and such.

Beware of what you wish for, because you might get it :)

Re: The truth about picking up mines

So obviously the warning symbol does not appear when FF is off for mines, interesting, I did not know that (I have never played on a FF off server before)...

So what Dodg3rman is saying is that when FF is off for mines there is no obvious way to tell the difference between friendly and enemy mines...

                                That is just great...

Actually thinking about it, it is pretty cool and takes away some of the cheeziness of FF off mines. While it saves the engineer from getting TK's the mines are still a problem because you don't know if they are friendly or not so all mines still need to be treated with respect...

Put like that I really like it...
