What about strategies so far against choppers. Usually I loved to kill choppers with the cannon. :) It was fun killing those guys.

Obviously now the air to air missle can take down choppers much easier, but I still find myself using the cannon, because it seems like the heli can drop the flares at a furious rate.

Im still using mostly cannon also,I guess it just applies to the situation but I plan to use mostly guns as it allows an approach where they dont know wtf is shooting them

I am glad they fixed the AA. As a ground pounder, it is a excellent resourse when being attacked from above. I used to fire two shots and it would just smoke, they would just land some where and repair if needed, but now, watch out pilots, Ace is back in bussiness.

Good to know. I am confident that what you are suggesting as a "loser tactic" is the concept of base rape? Right? If so, I'll be the first one in the jet on the map to do so. If I can prevent a bomber from going up while the rest of my team captures, I will gladly do so. If the other team doesn't like it, they can never use the "AA not hitting jets" exceuse anymore.

I'm excited to see how this all runs.

PEACE...and thanks for all the input guys, I am already planning on my attack strategies (I have print-outs of AA locations, points, etc)..yes, I am a geek!

I have to see this. The only thing I noticed is the missiles seem to take away less now sometimes. Now it takes like 3 hits to down them sometimes. Other than one other thing I do to get away, I know of no maneuver that will dodge the missiles yet.

Re: Pilot Discussion: Strategies for New Anti Air

If you know where the choppers are, just fly in high and slow down enough so that you can lock on again once they drop their flares. If the helis are flying low, you may have to back off or subject yourself to to many AA sites, but the helis will have to deal with FAV's and AT rockets more, and if the helis fly high, the jets can tear them apart.

Before patch, i very rarely downed helis because i am crap with the cannon, but now, by flying smart, i can get them

                Another tip for jet combat:
Before, most good pilot stayed in bomb mode and used cannon and only switched to missles if they had a good angle (like the jet was making a straight bombing run) or they were right on their butt. Now, however, i think its best to stay in missle mode and get the lock from far away. This way you are more likely to get them to drop their flares and get another lock without losing them, even if you are still far away.
Example: Say you are in a j-10 on wake and chasing a F35 back to the carrier. Before, you would probably stay in bomb mode to not betray your presence and try to use your cannons to take him out as he made his pass over the carrier where he was relatively straight. Now, go ahead and paint him from afar, let him do some evasive moves, drop his flares, then paint him again and let off 3-4 missles. This way you can quickly get out of town without having to get to close to dangerous airspace. I know that this sounds like common sense, but i still see a lot of pilots trying to sneak up on me. Sometimes it doesnt matter because these pilots are usualy good ones and are hard to loose, but sometimes it does. The closer you are, the harder it is to kill with missles. Range is now very important, if thats how you fly, although cannons are defintely still viable, especially since aircraft hitpoints were reduced.

I think is just those buggy ass missles or was just luck...I agree the Air2 AIr dogfight is ruined,Ive experimented long enough..The ground AA is alright by me but the MagicNoobMissles for dogfighting are way overboard. Its truly pathetic and the one and only thing thats ****ed me off since the 42 demo, its a GD joke !

Im also adding baseraping/hangarraping to the routine to show my gratitude!!

The ground and mobile AA is not the problem, they are just fine, perfect even. They should be that deadly.
Why of course, left clicking a few times and getting easy kills is PERFECTLY balanced isn't it....lol puhleeez....

Still... I have yet for anyone to say choppers are balanced and if you have skill you can actually live more than 3 seconds in them....

I have skill, and ejecting flares.....making sharp turns, using terrain...its all useless against this no skill, easy kill....noob pleasing AA....

I've said it before, as I am sure many have: There are issues about the game that do need addressing, and some of them were. Some other things could easily have been left out, and the game would be balanced.

I still say that the only REAL overpowering vehicle in this game, since the start, is the jet. It was because of the lack of anti-jet options. The AA was unmistakenly stupid, but instead of focusing on only these two aspects of the game, they decided instead of pleasing those that complain about the helicopters being overpowering.

I could care less, it won't affect my regular averaged score. I do get annoyed however as to how EA/DICE look at "important" issues when I am certain there will be an abundance of new glitches.

Once you get the bugs/glitches fixed up, then it is time to please the community. I feel that by doing this, you are giving everyone the equal opportunity of offering their opinions and complaints, and evaluating them in a timely fashion, rather than make a patch will too many changes at once.

Example: The first patch should have covered the performance issues, lag/memory leak issues, red name glitch, etc. The second patch should have then covered balancing issues within reason. When SF came out, they addressed problems that still had an effect on the original game since the "hot fix" to fix the previous patch.

When all (most known) of the issues are resolved, then you can go on to community issues such as balancing, overpowering, and non-stop complaints.

Oh well. Logic does not seem to fit a gaming standard.

As for more advice...umm, try different strategies than before 1.2. :)

Can you still lose Ground AA buy flying by the other teams Chopper and its gets attracked to there heat source? i used to do that alot in older patches

I think so, I'm not sure. Air to air missles are now very sensitive to friendly air crash, where if you fire your missles at a close chopper, and he fires flares, the missles will probably miss him, and go searching around the map until they ram a friendly vehicle and get you "Cool it! Cease fire" Or XXX teamkills XXX.

After about 2 hours of pure flying in BF2 1.2, I feel like i'm flying in BF2 1.12 again. The fear of missiles from both aircrafts and SAMs evaporated from me. I seem to always intercept bogeys first (instant win) and I always have been able to manage to avoid/survive most of the missiles shot at me. The first hour of flying was pure adrenaline and challenging for me, but now these emotions have transformed into peace and excitement...excited to rape more pilots and AA crews! w^_^w

However, one thing that did not evaporate are the AA missiles I am blessed with. These are lovely devils, a gift from hell itself, the work of a crafter with such skill and experience that dates back when Adam and Eve were first created.

Since 1.2 was released, I have only been shot down by enemy fighters twice, and three times from enemy SAMs, and my K/D ratio has actually increased. Yes I took count :P

In a bomber i stay high in the sky, till i see a target then just dive down and pull up quick, let my co take it out, and only use bombs when there are alot of targets bunched up

In a fighter, i stay high out off AA site and just hunt other jets down, i go to missle lock and take it off when they drop thier flairs, once they do that i go back on missle lock and just fire away

If there is another jet following me i dive low to the ground and see if i can do some crazy stuff to make him crash or just give up, but keep flairs ready untill i see a missle coming

Or if i hit jet once, i follow him and just shoot it down with the 50

Sounds interesting. I haven't had a chance to play since I initially posted this thread, because my computer went down.

I noticed that part of my strategy has really changed. Before I would always pound the ground and take down choppers. I would usually ignore other planes, unless it was really killing them team, chasing me/annoying me, and flying like a total noob.

Now, when I see another pilot I quickly engage them, and try to take them down. Likewise, I use to love killing mobile AA, but now it's turning into a priority.

I was thinking about what else could be changed to improve the plane without raping the ground, and I came to the conclusion that airplane ceiling needs to be increased. As is once you go past like 1,100 ft you go fast and stall.

If you could go high past the clouds you could fly over the battlefield to avoid AA, and but not be given the ability to rape the ground.

Likewise you would have more vertical room to dog fight, because as is, you can only do a quick loop, and if you climb to high, you will stall.

What do you guys think.. Should they maybe increase the flight ceiling. It gives no advantage to the planes to kill ground troops, but overall I think would make the planes more vertistle and fun. :)
