Pilot Discussion: Strategies for New Anti Air

Well, what can you say? They made the Anti air MUCH better, but at this point I guess we complain, but it won’t do much, so we just have to adapt or stop flying. Lets discuss some strategies to use with the new air plane.

I spent about 2 hours flying tonight, and wow, the skies are very dangerous. It really changes the whole way the plane is used. You can no longer fly over the battle field and loiter around. You really have to come in for strikes and get out of town. My opinion is they overdid it, especially on levels that have a Tunguska or a linebacker. The stationary AA is ok to deal with, with only 2 missiles, but 6 in the Tunguska and Linebacker are a death sentence. Likewise, even a noob pilot can get behind you, and if you are out of flares you are dead. I also noticed a bug, where missiles will hit the enemy and kind of bounce on the plane for a couple seconds, then either explode or fly off.

Some things that I found work well so far:

-Only barely use afterburner to keep your flares at hand. You always need to have flares to dodge the first missile, otherwise you are toast.

-Fly either very low to keep out of anti air watch.

-Fly on the edge of the map, come in strike and get the hell out.

-Kill stationary Anti Air when no one is in it.

-Fly very high, then dive down strike the target, and get out of there.

-Lock onto the enemy pilot, fire a missles, they drop flares, then fire 3 more, usually means their dead.

What else, only played a bit tonight? Let's adapt to the anti air.

I wish the AA has been like that since the very first day of this game. I wish now I can play against some of the guys who used to rape the infantry like a @$%^@$. one name I remeber was BushViper. i played against him couple of times before the patch. Then after that I used to leave the server once he logged-in!! now I do not have to do that!

The ground and mobile AA is not the problem, they are just fine, perfect even. They should be that deadly.

The problem lies in the Jets Air to Air missiles. I've seen my missiles look like they want to lose the lock, but somehow they zig zag and zig zag to their target no matter the angle. This is either a bug or bad coding. there was no reason to mess with the jet A to A system. used to be a challenge to take down a J10, now its simple as pie, even in a bomber :|:

That is the way it should be! once you lock on a target then he must be dead!

Take out the AA site first with machine guns. Head straight towards it and dont just fly be and not bother about it because you will be dead.

Please keep the comments about you being happy about ANTI air being amazing out of this thread. That's great.

Yeah you are right, the mobile AA is ok i guess. You just have to sneak up on it, and then it's toast.

You are exactly right on Air to air The air to air missles are insane now. If you are out of flares it seems like it's impossible to dodge them if fired at a close range. There is a bug with them, where they kind of hit you at any which angle, and bounce around with a lightening looking thing around them
I did like it better when you had to down someone with guns. I'd say if they made the air to air dodgable that would work well, but as it is, that really isnt' possible.

The Air to air and the Surface to air code is the same. The only reason you were able to get kills air to air before was because you could stick yer nose up their tailpipe before letting loose.

If you're having trouble with fighters... well, GOOD! that's the way it should be. Air Supiriourity is the fighter's first job. Kill their fighters before their's kill you.

Everyone is just gonna have to adapt to missiles.

AA is fine. Air-to-Air is overpowered IMO. There won't be anymore good dogfights. It's about who can get the lock on first and fire the missle.

Before it used to be about maneuvering, sticking on somebody's six, and tear them up with mini-guns and timely missles.

I think you are right! We do not hear much about dogfight these days. Once you are in the range of any missle that is locked on you you are dead.

Now thats wot I like to hear. A pilot that sounds like his a real pilot. This is just like what fighters/bombers to in real life. Ok, bye-bye to the big scores, but hello to the dangers of war.
The above quote is inspiring me to learn how to fly. It seems now to be alot more rewarding.

This makes the game so much more boring. It takes the whole thought out of combat now. The system is unbalanced. There is no reason an F15 should be able to kill a J10 so easily. None whatsoever.

Yeah... I've been tossing around the idea of finally picking up a joystick and taking advantage of these empty planes.

Big scores wasn't enough ta lure me in, but a good challange? Yeah, sounds cool ta me.

First I wanna practice with the 'Hawks 'n get 'em down tho.

You need to read up on what airwar is these days.

As far as mechanics are concerned, why is it so unfair that an F-18 can take out a J-10, but a J-10 can kill anything on the ground?
Doesn't sound like a legit gripe ta me.

The aircraft sucked so bad that I actually got to fly a plane tonight. Nobody wanted it. And as a newb pilot I did alright. I just used caution and actually respected AA.

Is it crazy that you should fear AA? I don't think so. People who were aces before will still be aces.

To me the changes in place, if anything, inspre people to work as a team. i.e. "SQUAD MEMBER, TAKE OUT THE AA."

                              What a novelty.

                              Aircraft still rule.

I think the people that bitch now, are the same ones who wanted to jump into a pub server and own independent of a team.

Aircraft still rule. You just need the team and they you.
