Seeking advice, pretty desperate actually!!

Ok my hard drive packed in today, So off I toddle to my local PC shop & buy a new one, installed battlefield 2 & then proceeded to download specials force via RA downloader again - that went fine, then when I went to install it I got a message saying I first needed battlefield 2 installed!!! WTF its installed.

So I though bummer maybe a problem so I click the bf2 exe & the game loads up fine.

Hmm so I ttry special forces again & get the same error - I then try installing the bf2 1.20 patch & again says I don't have bf2 installed - So I think i'll unistall bf2 & reinstall - but when I try the unistaller loads across the screen, flashes & nothing!! can't unistall - I double click the d:\ where bf2 disk & the option to install comes up wtf!! I try clicking on it, the installer screen comes up & loads across then flashes & nowt :-(

dear jesus, so silly me deletes the folder "never a good idea but I get silly & frustrated easily" Now am I buggered as I cannot get it to reinstal - is there anything in the registry |I must delete? please someone help a foolish unfortunate soul ^ ^

use norton to whipe everything, install vanilla BF2, then instal patch 1.12, then install SF, then install patch 1.2 incremental i think i had the same problem as you

Don't forget after installing SF reinstall 1.12
SF reverts back to an older version

ok, this is what EA support sent to me and it worked.

"Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2 for PC.

If an automatic uninstallation doesn't work, you can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.

To delete the save files:
Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.

To delete the game files (in the default location):
Open My Computer.
Open the C drive.
Open the Program Files folder.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:
Click on the Start button.
Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} andchoose Delete.
A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.

Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system."

now try to reinstall and things should hopefully work for you.

Thank the lords, after deleting a few registry lines I was able to reinstall battlefield 2 - then I applied the 1.12 patch followed by sf & finally 1.20 & worked perfectly.
