im thinking most of the good pilots do.

i just use my keyboard...but i rarley fly, and i suck when i do. if i ever take to the air its either as an attack chopper gunner or as a passanger/gunner on a transport chopper.

I own with an attack chopper (so much that somebody was ****ed off so bad they made an account named Alcorr_heli_whore) and all I use is mouse and keyboard.

All you have to do is get a good feel for your mouse...and you can own just as good as those joystick guys do...

A joystick really seems to speed things up though, i was a competant jet pilot with a mouse, but using a joy really feels gooooood.

i used to fly with the keyboard...but then I hooked up my joystick and yes...it makes a load of difference. As long as you map all the keys correctly to where you never have to touch the keyboard, it makes flying a jet awesome. However, I do not recommend it for choppers. Some swear by flying choppers with a joystick, others like me just use the keyboard.

The majority of the better chopper pilots use keyboard and mouse, i use the joystick however thats only cause i started out using the joystick and now i can't get the hang of keyboard and mouse.

As for planes, you won't find a good pilot with keyboard and mouse. Alot of people claim they are good, but when it comes down to it they will get owned by a half decent pilot with a joystick.

I feel for choppers, that keyboard and mouse is fine; however, jets perform so much better with joystick.

I have used a joystick to fly but I prefer using a dual analog gamepad; like a PS2 controller.
I use one analog stick for pitch and roll, and the other for rudder. I find having the separate stick for rudder really helps when flying, especially for choppers.

If you want a good joystick, head to WalMart and get the Saitek ST290 Pro. It's got a hat switch, 6 buttons, and a twist axis, and a built-in throttle, all for only $20.

im sure a joystick is better than the standard control scheme, but if you swap some controls, the mouse can be better than a joystick. i swapped my mouse left/right movement with my keyboard strafe left/right. i switched yaw for roll. so now when i move my mouse left and right it yaws, not rolls. this is more intuitive imo.
