If the bunny-hopping fix is anything like DoD Source, ouch

Over the weekend, I played the free demo, and it sucked at how long it took to go prone and back up. It totally stopped the gameplay for anything but bullet-spraying.

Totally a different feeling, which I promptly uninstalled and went back to BF2.

going prone is no longer instant. it takes maybe half a second now, so that you can no longer dolphin dive (which seems to make you almost invincible to most players). also, they removed the ability to shoot while bunny hopping. you can still bunny hop all day and all night, you just can't shoot at the same time. makes it a bit more realistic.

I dont see anything wrong with going prone straight away. Its essential to get a decent shot and whats the point when the other guy has a gun that he can shoot accurate standing while you take 10 years to get on the floor with a LMG.

If its changed alot im gunna be really ****ing ****ed off.

go prone before you expect enemy contact and strafe out from cover then fire.

"oh no but that requires THOUGHT!!!"

well then go buy Quake 4 or something.

              oh yeah and this...

I got no proof but I felt like I was one of the best DoD players there was and lemme tell ya firing from the prone position at the right time and the right place in DoD is the most essential skill I ever learned and I could beat wall hacking Kar whores even with a ****ing M1 carbine just by making myself the smallest target possible behind some cover and anticipating their snap strafe horse****. I don't think anyone else in that game could play the way I did cuz all you ever see in that game is bullrush, crouch and spray but my **** was a whole nother level above that. I hope everyone stops using prone when this patch comes out because I'm gonna tear up so much ass when people try to crouch and I'm laying there prone with that big target in my sights. Don't deny yourself an easy advantage like that.

It's not that it requires thought! It just changed the pace of the game. The action just wasn't fluid and fast like BF2 is/was.

As I said in my reply just a minute ago, it changes the pace of the game, and you just gave ample evidence in this post that your tactics were very different in DoD than in BF2. I don't mind how fast you go down to prone, as long as it take a bit to get back up to stop the dolphin-dive/bunnh-hop. But just the pacing of it was so different from BF2, that I didn't like it.

I don't play BF2 as a "lay on the ground and wait for them to come to me" type player, but with the huge cone that BF2 has for it's firing spray while standing, it's going to change the game style, for sure.

                      aight

Going prone takes something ridiculous like 5 seconds in dod:s anyway

That game is sort of bad example because prone is very different anyway .. it doesn't give you accuracy bonus - it reduces recoil. Actually, shots 1 to 20 from a BAR are equally accurate, no matter how fast you fire .. gun bounces around and you have to fight the recoil with your mouse movements. Since crouching is instant and also reduces recoil, you should rather crouch instead of prone -proning takes ages to both go in, and to rise from. Basically only good reasons to prone in dod are ; you're MG and need to prone to deploy your gun, or you need to hide under something and can't get there otherwise, or you need to prone to get better vantage at something.

Proning in BF2 is very often your #1 stance to go in, crouch is #1 in DoD.

Also, about hopping fix .. Dod used to have firing while jumping enabled until retail version .. some people still bitch to get it back, I think removing it lowered the game speed a bit. And that game used to have "real" bunnyhopping as well - method you could actually gain speed with. HL engine fault, that got dealt with eventually.

They're 2 very different games anyway. Single things like how proning and jumping is handled really don't tell anything how it would work in other game.

If it takes you longer to go prone than that means we can't get through windows anymore, right? I would always jump towards a window and go prone mid air to get through. Is that nerfed? That would suck...

Also, alot of times when your sneaking up to the corner of a building and there is an overlap of material you have to stand up and step over it and then go prone again. With the longer time to go prone this will make you an easier target.

^Proning in mid-air will no longer be possible after the patch.
