Irregular lag issue

I have a:

AMD Athlon FX-57
2 GB Corsair XMS Pro RAM
XFX GeForce 7800 GTX Xtreme Edition 256 MB
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2

I’m getting stuttering/lag especially when I turn in game.

I have seen other threads where players are experiencing this to.

I have a ten meg connection and for months the game ran perfect on top settings until a few weeks ago when many experienced that sound issue.

Even though the sound issue has stopped, the irregular lag has remained.

It plays perfectly fine single player just as it once did on multi, I’d like to know who is still getting this and of course to read from anyone that might help…

Your rig is a beast, therfore its nothing to do with your hardware.

Do you have all of your drivers updated, gfx card etc.

Check what your running in the background, and check your pagefile and performance on the task manager, see if anything is eating up your RAM.

Also try scanning for spyware/adware/viruses etc.

Yea, done all that my friend, it's really strange. I fear this is somthing that is going to bug me and a handful of other gamers for some time.

Is there a way to contact people from Punk Buster?

Well I downloaded the new patch and to no surprise it has not help this lag issue at all.

I just don’t understand it, the game played beautifully for months until very recently.

I’ve changed nothing, my comp was built for gaming only…

When I play single player it works fine, no lag.

It’s always the same, as you turn or when you’re near other players it stutters….

On the Punk buster site I found a paragraph about something which really resembles the problems I’m getting.

It’s almost near the bottom under MY Computer locks up or Chugs…

The thing is that I entered a server not using Punk Buster and the same thing happened with the stutter so it may not be this…

Fact was this problem started when many players had that sound issue: The scream of the speakers and loss of sound.

I experienced the stutter or chugging as soon as it unfroze at the beginning of the game after the scream…

Ever since then it’s been the same especially on maps like the Oil fields…

I’ve turned my anti virus off, no change…

Removed the game completely, nothing changed…

Defragged and ran a virus checks.. nothing…

Set the graphics down to the lowest levels, still lagging…

Shut down my firewall, no help...

The fact is that there are so many threads now complaining about low FPS and lag since and before this patch it must be something out of our hands?

I expect bad programming, I simply can’t believe this since the game work perfectly for months and months on the highest settings.

I have a very fast connection (10 meg), I experience no problems on other games and no heat issues…

I built my computer for this game and its high demands, and now for some reason I can’t play it how I once could….

Well, I have exactly the same problem. For the time being, I have completely given up on playing the game because it is simply un-playable with stuttering like that. This is the ONLY game this happens in!

I have tried a few other things suggested in forums. I always have my firewall and virusScan off when I play. I have tried using gamexp, which i thought had fixed the problem, but the next day it was just as bad.

I also tried pressing tilde (~) in the game and using the command pb_sleep 500 which changes the punkbuster scan to its minimum amount of scans possible. THen pb_writecfg to save the settings. This didn't help me but many claim it helped them.

Then used I have no spyware or viruses on my machine and I have defragged and run disk-cleanup. So my computer is clean, it just doesn't make sense why it just started happening one day. I have completely uninstalled and wiped any trace of BF2 off my system, but it was just as bad when I reinstalled. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

So, Layzan, I hope the things I have tried work for you, even thought they didn't work for me. Until I get a suggestion that sounds like it will work, I'm just giving up on BF2 cold-turkey cuz I haven't had any fun playing it in weeks.

both of you guys have killer systems... epecially lyzan... its oviously the update.... they realy messed up.. i seriously think that for the problems we should get the next two booster packs for free.... ya right they do that...... lol..... its crap.... too bad we cant get everyone to drop back to 1.12.... strange though.. i have a similar system to you guys and i getting stutering too.... but my dad has a slow comp with old vid card and his runs fine on lower reselutions and settings.... myn stuters no matter what setting its on..... stupid... im mad......

I fixed my problem by completely reformatting and reinstalling windows. I had some other major problems that system restore couldn't fix, so I just started over. If reinstalling windows is not an option for you, try completely uninstalling BF2 (player profiles and everything), and punkbuster, then delete anything it leaves behind, including the battlefield 2 folder in "my documents". Then run a registry cleaner, regcleanr is a free one, and reinstall bf2. Hope this helps you guys.

YAh my ping has skyrocketed--and it isn't my comp

It is always over 100 or higher no matter where I play

i stutter at the beginning of the game & then every couple of mins, when this occurs my ping is very low around 15-25. The stuttering has happened since latest patch. And i also have the models skating along the floor sometimes.

This is something I believe is out of our hands.

I’ve contacted EA and to my surprise they had not heard anything about this lag/stuttering issue, (so they say).

I’ve E-mailed a copy of my Dxdiag to them with an explanation of the problem.

I believe the more people do this quicker they can rectify the problem and take into account how displeased so many are that EA have somehow turned BF2 into BFPoo…
