    And for importing you could just export and then convert to a file that Gmax can read and from there export
    I have Maya myself, but I use 3ds max for about everything
    I think you should define noob friendly better. If you do that people will think maya is just for "noobs" as you call them when thats the complete opposite of its real capabilities.

      I never said Maya is only for noobs, I said its noob-friendly.
      It means that the UI is pretty easy to understand.

        IMHO i think GMax is a better start for modelers because you can easily find all of its options and tools in one place (the tabed shelves) where as Maya to do basic functions you need keyboard hotkeys for everything and usualy thats a little to involved for a indroduction level student if you dont know the basics of 3d.

        if you are fighting the concepts of 3d as well as elements of the UI you set yourself up to fail... not that Gmax is any better than Maya or vice versa but i think you have to build up a frustration tollerence before moving onto a program like maya ^^;

          If you know the basics of Gmax, modeling in Maya is way easier, I can make a pretty basic model in Maya just from knowing the Gmax basics
