The Lesser the better?

Hi Soldiers,

This is my first post here, so please be mild if this has been asked before.

A lot of you guys have some great system rigs to run BF2 in all its glory, but is that a real advantage in the field? What i'm trying to say is, that some people with lesser systems have to use lower settings, Like the "Terrain" for example.
In this case you'll have less foilage while other people (who have this setting set to high) will see more grass.

IMO it's the guy with the lesser config (or the one who has lowered this setting) has the advantage to see the enemy quicker, because the one playing with high settings thinks he's hiding in the grass, but isn't?

Is this true, has anyone tested this? What video options should be lowered. What are the best video options to see the enemy the fastest. (except for the drawing distance)

and yes, I know the site http://www.tweakguides.com/ for using the best options, but I was curious what you guy's think.

ive heard that before, that people with it on low have the advantage. but, i think, if your experienced, you will know whether its a player or a rock. i have all my settings on high and never really mistake guys for any part of the foliage

Welcome, I think the main thing is lighting if you have it set high it can get very dark in places but on low it's still quite bright.

Yep. And if u put on things like dynamic lights (muzzle flash), dynamic shadows (see the shadow of a player hiding behind a tree) or increase the "effects" setting (see the smoke trails of noobtube etc.) it can help you too.

On the other hand, if u have to look for a guy thats noobtubing you by the smoke trails of the grenades, you are already getting pwned so i wouldn't say that settings are the thing that make or break a player.

Ultimately, settings won't make a huge difference. However, they can make some difference, lighting in particular. On Low lighting, dark corners in a room are still light - on Low lighting, there are actually no dark places on the maps. So that gives a bit of an advantage.

Now, view distance, that can have an impact. You can't shoot someone you don't see, and if your view distance is 100% instead of 75%, you get to see more people sometimes, like when sniping, or get to see aircraft from farther out when in AA.

This is both true and false, Ofcourse a lower system will probably have lower FPS and be subject to lag however people who play on High have the problem of shadows and plant textures and this makes targets eg. Snipers harder to see.

Hello mate and welcome to the site!!
without blowing my own raspberry I think I have quite a good PC but the fact remains that i'm STILL crap!!
I've been playing since December but I still have those days where you just run around getting killed by various things (not always weapons either!), its just that these days, with everything set to HIGH, I get a better selection of clouds floating past while i'm waiting to respawn!

If you take a look at these 2 settings, don't you think it will give you a huge advantage when set to low? (not that it looks good , but hey! it's all about the kills :evil:)

ya...view distance is a funny thing. got mine turned all the way up, yet in maps like karkand, a tank will shoot me perfectly when completely shrouded by the fog.
