Quick Headset Question

Is there a way to setup a standard stereo headset (using 2x3.5mm plugs) to ONLY have voice come through the speakers?

I have the basic Creative Xfi sound card if it matters.

Damn...no console codes or anything to allow only voice through a headset? I figured I could just use one of the center left/right or rear left/right ports on the sound card-since you obviously cannot tell a sound card to split a channel using a 3.5mm plug.

If you want sound to come through your speakers, than make sure you have a headset with a mic plug and a headphone plug.

Plug the speakers in your sound card, and plug the mic plug into your sound card but leaving the headset plug out. That way you get sound out of your speakers and a working mic. I don't know if this works with all mics but it works for my Logitech® Precision PC Gaming Headset

No, I want to use the headset to JUST receive voice & send voice. I'll do some of my geek stuff and post back if I can get it working, I'll bet I'm not the only one out there that would like this kind of setup.

It's like playin' on XBOX live, you have a headset solely for voice while your tv/surround is for the game sounds.

Wtih ventrilo/teamspeak you can set it up to do that. You need a USB headset though. So just set teamspeak/vent to run throught the headset and then make sure you have ti set so everything else goes through the speakers.

I knew it, I just went out and purchased a nice 3.5mm headset....Thanks for the info tho-good to know in the future.

I use a USB headset with TeamSpeak and I am doing exactly what you're looking to do. Actually, I'm USING an xbox live wireless headset

If only we could feed the in-game VOIP this way...but alas, it is impossible. You have to go with a 3rd party app.

this is the best solution: USB headset.

Get a generic Logitech USB headset, plug it in, have WinXP detect is as a sound device, reboot.

When you get back in, make sure your USB headset is NOT the default sound device, but that it is the default "recording device"

If you are using VoIP software such as Ventrilo or TeamSpeak, you can then dedicate the sound to go there instead of your speakers.

As for internal VoIP (in-game BF2) I have tried, but I haven't been able to.

there might be a "hack/edit" you can make to a .CON file for this, but I've seen nothing as of yet.
