USB headset causing extra lag: why???

I have a Logitech headset, and when I use it I get a considerable frame bog. I can simply unplug them and it runs smooth as silk afterwards, if they're plugged in I get alot of choppy stuttering...

Another thing is when I unplug them in the middle of a game I lose sound until I run the game again.

Any help on what I could do to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Truth is for the most part USB headphones suck. All audio processing is done in software, using cpu cycles; then it has to go out over the usb, using a few more cpu cycles. About the best you can do is to make sure have the latest drivers for the headphones, and ingame sound settings set to software and low.

Get a decent Sound Card and Analog Headsets like the rest of the world. USB headsets are silly and useless.

i used to have a usb headset, and it is true, the performance decreases alot because u do not have a good sound card helping.

I use a USB headset/mic for TeamSpeak and have the rest of the BF2 audio playing through my 5.1 speakers and X-Fi card.

USB isn't always a bad idea.

For MAIN BF2 audio, yes. But not for 3rd party VOIP. It's a great way to channel voice to a different channel other than your main speakers.

So basically I should either get new normal headphones or soundcard or both?

I was also wondering if there exists an adapter that converts a USB into the normal speaker thing in the back of the card...LOL thats a long shot...

One more thing...how the heck would I go about channeling VOIP to the USB while keeping the main games audio on the card...I've never even heard of that...some instructions would be nice. :)

In the Windows audio control panel, select the 'Voice' tab and select your USB headset from the recording and playback drop down lists.

Voila.

BF2 sounds come through your 5.1 and your 3rd party VOIP voice comes through the headset.
