Purchasing a limited number of unlocks?

Seeing how EA wants to capitalize on BF2 which isn't wrong at all. I have no problem paying for the fun I'm having with BF2. Why not allow us to buy maybe 2 unlocks or so for $10.00? They won't have to do anything really new just set up a site for players to enter their account info and poof you got 2 more unlocks?

If EA were to maybe limit it to 2 or so, it would give new players a few weapons or those who are at First/Master Sergeant and need to more than double their points to get their next unlock can get them a bit sooner.

I don't really see it hurting anyone, people who don't want to pay can simply play to get their unlocks. Right now I'm First Sarge and it's going to be quite sometime before I get the rest of my weapons. And for me it won't be anytime soon, seeing how I only get to play maybe about 5- 6 hours a week being a full time college student.

Would be fair, but I think it's a lousy idea IMHO.

I wouldn't pay for that because we have no reason to. That would be saying that we wouldn't have to work hard and earn points to get better and get unlocks, we could just pay with no points and still get them. That's not fair, is it?

        Not going to happen.

Let's be honest. All the guns should be unlocked from the start. Its a nice but useless gimmick. First fps game which does it in mp. And frankly, I hate it. But hell, it's innovating. I sure would be pay for all weapons unlocked, but not for just 2.

          Cheers

lol... perhaps we should pay for the updates and pathes too... pay for the stats... pay a monthly fee to play...

U SICK FOOL! It's supposed to be free, like in any other game!

Not trying to start a flame or anything but people who didn't feel like paying for unlocks could still pay for them. To people who don't have all the weapons, how many times have you thought about how nice it'd be to have a weapon that was locked and you picked up and liked? 5 or 10 dollars is just lunch or something.

We're already paying for patches. Special Forces? EU Forces? Armored Fury? Look at Special Forces, people who bought that got extra unlocks. Whether or not it's fair is up to the person, however, EA is already doing it. It's nothing new to the MMORPG scene either.

People could also argue that it's unfair if they can only play for a few hours a week versus the people that can play a few hours a day. I got 30k till my next rank, I think Sergeant Major?. I got an average SPM of 1.6 but I don't think I have the time to make that rank any time soon.

One a side note, computer gaming has never been a cheap hobby. Even in the days of the Voodoo 2 cards and when dynamic lighting came out. People drop about 200-300 dollars worth of RAM in their comp and a 300 dollar graphic card, what's 5 or 10 bucks considering how many hours most people play?

                  well compare this:
--> New Rich Player to the game: rank: private global points: 0 unlocks: 0
in 2 minutes he has bought 12 unlocks ... he unlocked everything (+ SF)
--> Old Player to the game: rank: 2nd Lt. global points: 200.000 unlocks: 16
he has played for 5 months (i mean a lot...) and killed/played for the unlocks

what do you think about it?

Re: Purchasing a limited number of unlocks?

Where'd the 10 grand come from? The accounts on ebay?

Robske007a, in my original post I said "maybe limit it to 2 unlocks or so", that way it could help keep people from doing exactly that. Another possibility, allow people to buy SF unlocks who don't own SF and it could save them money if all they wanted was the SCAR L or G36E.

It's not as if the only way to get unlocks is to buy them. But it gives people the chance to get their weapons a bit sooner etc. Besides it's only a few dollars. I don't think that's really "rich". Besides, what if that player doesn't have the time to play to make 2nd LT? I think buying rank would be a bad idea, even as First Sarge I have problems applying for commander sometimes.

Bringing up cost of gaming, it's just as easy to say a "rich" player will have an advantage because they have a better graphic card. Should nVidia and ATI only make one card everyone could afford? Take two equal players one with a low end rig and all the unlocks vs one with a high end rig with no unlocks, what's going to be more of an advantage?

I think more people could buy an unlock or two than a 7800gtx or X1800.

but the unlocks really aren't better than other weapons. Just different.

You can get owned by a stock weapon, just as easily as unlocks.

Re: Purchasing a limited number of unlocks?

No I have Special Forces, I was just saying in a hypothetical sense, if someone didn't feel like buying Special Forces, they could purchase a weapon or two.

Maybe it's been awhile but I remember the US and PLA special forces weapon was kind of weak. US Assault. Granted some of the unlocks are different and work better in some situations.

How many people are around the 20k range in terms of points? Going to be a long way to get the last set of weapons at 50k...at least for me. I'd rather see Sergeant Major around 30k range or something but I think there's a bigger chance of EA/DICE selling unlocks versus lowering the ranks. Just my 0.02.
