What's the point a rule against base raping if no one follows it?

Before some smarty pants floptard comes out and says that admins pay the bills and can do whatever they want, I have this to say: EVERYONE KNOWS THIS ALREADY! SHUT UP!

I know everyone has encountered this many times even on well adminned servers. You sit for awhile watching the loading screen and read the rules over and over because there ain't much else to do while you wait for the game to load. Then you join the game and realize that there's 5-6 guys on the other team breaking the rules (which they definitly had plenty of time to read) by base raping airstrips repeatedly. They know full well that what they are doing is against the server rules, yet they do it anyway.

What really ticks me off though is not the players that do this but the servers that have rules against base raping. What's the point of having this stupid rule if no one is going abide by it? Sure the regulars WON'T base rape and sure you can ban floptards all day long but so long as BF2 exists there's gonna be an infinite supply of people out to break your base raping rule on purpose. I logged 100+ hours on BF2 so far and I have yet to see a game on servers with these inane rules that are devoid of base rapers.

The only people that are hurt by this silly rule are the people that follow the rules and get base raped over and over. They cannot level the playing field by using the same tactics, instead they must bend over and accept their punishment on behalf of the admins stupid rules. Telling the admins only temporarily solves the problem (infinite supply, remember?) and most of the time the admins are busy playing anyway so they can't be bothered to take care of their server.

Such rules like this are totally unenforceable and cause most players to break them on purpose out of sheer disgust for the silly rule. Not only that but it forces you cripple yourself so that you do not accidentally fly over the enemy airstrip or get caught in the gunner seat of a base raping chopper pilot lest you want to be banned. This just serves to complicate an already complicated game.

Admins may pay the bills for their server but they certainly do not pay us pubbers to fill up their server. Without pubbers your server might as well be another empty server filled with bots ala CS. Everyone talks about how admins can do whatever they want with their server but no one ever talks about how their players are their lifeblood. Admins need to give the hand that feeds alot more respect and stop forcing rules which cannot be enforced upon us.

servers always have rules like that nobody follows.

one server i play on regularly says you MUST join a squad, or else you get kicked....yup, never been kicked before and i lone wolf all the time.

I've been on plenty of servers (and kicked from a few) who had rules and admins that enforce them (sometimes too strictly). I guess it just comes down to the server you are on. Sometimes it works out and sometimes even the admins don't really care. But for the most part if the server has the rules posted and admins that play on that server you should really abide by what they say or expect to be kicked. And players are a dime a dozen, they come and go and it's up to the admins to choose whether to allow rule breakers or not.
If they want to enforce there rules they are more then welcome to and just as you are welcome to leave. And if they don't then find a server that has stricter admins. They are definitly out there.

Yep. I can understand having rules like this in smaller and easier to manage games like CS, TFC etc but with 64 players playing all at once and atleast 10 or so new people coming to the server every 5 mins or so, the rules become useless. No admin in the BF2 community can ever hope to enforce their rules completly. There will always be trouble makers and the chaotic nature of the game + the amount of players only compounds the problem. The only solution is to allow the game to be played the way it was meant to be played so everyone can play an even game with the same tactics without having lopsided games where base rapers rape and submissive rule followers submit.

This is true, but players come and go alot more often in BF2 then any other game. This ensures that there will always be a healthy supply of idiots to break the rules. You can ban one guy but there's probably several more guys to replace him anyway. So my question again is, what's the point of having this rule if no one is going to follow it?

I play on <<R2>> clan's superb server. They have a no baseraping rule...and guess what? They enforce it, and strongly. I've seen plently of people kicked (rightly) from the server for breaking rules, being an idiot, TKing for vehicles etc...

And it's also a fast, well-admined, well-set-up server. I love it, if you couldn't tell already.

I wouldn't say no one is following it, from my experience it's really only a few people who break the rules and when the admins warns them over the chat usually they stop, or get kicked which usually sets the rest of the people in line. And while people do come and go many stay through out a round or two which gives them plenty of time to figure out the rules incase they didn't notice them.

It also doesn't take much for an admin to notice someone is camping a spawn, or a group of guys are moving into an upcap base. The only real problems are the ones who dophlin-dive and other person tactics that the admins might disagree with and in those cases usually if the admin seens it they will kick. The next patch should elevate those person tactics so the admins will have an even easier time.

A set of servers that remains nameless has a long list of rules, thing is that they are only followed when admin is about, to make that worse admin is blatently obvious when about, i dont really care what other people do so long as they dont effect me game. But my usual server is pretty much anything goes, yet i see far less base raping and better gameplay, ive yet to see admin ban anyone after a fair while on that server. Whilst i wouldnt claim to know for sure i do think that the more rules a server has the worse the standard of general gameplay.
If the server attracts a crowd that base rapes to the extent of extra admin rules id try to avoid it, it only states that they are full of kids after easy kills.
To turn the question around, why do you play on a server that suffers from such problems to the extent that they advertise a rule against it?

I don't. I play on different servers but keep a small list of favorite servers handy. The large majority of servers that I find have these rules. I try to avoid them like the plague but sometimes they meet other criteria that allows me to play there consistently. I usually have the most enjoyable games on servers where anything goes besides TK'ing. There's plenty of baseraping on these servers, but it feels hella good when you finally get a chance to get in the air and pummel their airstrips.
