  • Video card Artifacting & temps?

I have a 7800gtx that is currently clocked 480/1400. Its stock was 460/1300. When I OC anyhigher I get artifacting. Is there like a max temp you hit then artifacting occurs? Is it possible for me to get my card going higher with liquid cooling? I have seen people with like 530/high mem. Is there like a limit on my card or is it just the temps?

There is no "set" temp you will get errors, it may be a temp issue or it may be a deficiency in the card. What are your temps?

      Idle at 480/1400 I'm at 43C and under 3dmark 05 I get to a high of 69C.

You may see an increase with liquid. Those were about the temps I was running pre-liquid and I got quite a good bump from better cooling.

You can always try a good 3rd party cooling solution.

yeah, with my 7800gt, i set it to detect optimal freqs and i still get artifacts, but i think the only way to get rid of them is to get some vga cooling.

So my card isnt "locked"? It it is the tempature limiting me?

So liquid cooling would get me like in the 520/1400 range? With some nice heat compound.....

Nothing is gaurenteed. You probably won't get the memory up that high as most GPU blocks do not cool the memory.

But with liquid cooling I could get my core to over 500 right? and get some FPS boost?

Like I said nothing is gaurenteed. I got to 535 or so with mine, but you may or may not see the same results.

just note that sometimes overclocking may slow down ur performance.(thats waht i heard from other ppl), and it does shorten the lifespan of ur video card...so dont go extreme on the ocing

And with a voltmod you could even hit higher speeds.
