Logitech 3D Pro Stiffness

Alright, so I am (well was) a plane whore (usmc on wake ftw). I used a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 joystick (similar to the PP i think) and it just recently got fucked up (it was given to me used, about 2 years ago... so I got A LOT of usage out of it, great js by the way). If I turned left (the rudder), when I returned to center it would start turning to the right out of no where. So I have been "joystick-less" for about 2 months :cry: :p because I didn't have enough money to get a new joystick because I play guitar and thats an expensive ass hobby (bought a new mesa 4x12). I got a $40 best buy gift certificate from my friends for my b-day and figured... ah what the hell.. i'm just gonna get the 3d pro.

So I did. But it is a little bit too stiff for my liking... I was wondering if i could somehow make it a little bit weaker for the return to center.

No you cannot! unless you open it and put some greese on the joints inside the js itself (too much hassle!)
Save a little bit more money if you can and get Saitek X52 ~$100. it is a good joystick for a jet junkie

actually i already bought it, and i just opened it up... theres a spring at the bottom... if i cut out like a little section of that (maybe like 1/4 of 1 whole coil) will that make it less stiff..?

Yeah i saw/tested that thing... CRAZY smooth... yet still fairly stiff return (perfect) and comfortable. and then it had the double trigger thing... whatever that is. like you press it farther and its another button.

well i only had a $40 gift certificate (best buy) and like $25, and i needed like $20... so the $5 was good for tax.

I just ordered a Saitek X52. Got to play with it a little at the store and holy schnarkies it was amazing. Can't wait to go pick it up later tonight from Best Buy.

I have the spring in my hand... i was looking at the mechanics of the whole thing, and if i take a piece out, it WILL make it less stiff... but im guessing it wont make it return all the way back to center because its slightly shorter, so im putting my dresser leg (the whole thing weighs about 400 lbs) on it for like 10 minutes.. and im hoping that might work... but i doubt it.

The joystick gets considerably looser as time goes on. My old 3D Pro (which I used for 6 months) is very loose compared to my new one.

IT gets looser, and i'm actually quite happy with the stiffness. It is more realistic and much smoother than other sticks. Mine hasn't gotten much looser since i don't use it for long amounts of time.

I have a question to Saitek users. What software can be used for it? Wingman calibration program will or will not work? I have a Logitech Attack 3. Not the best, but I just love the programs that support it so I can make adjustments to it. I dont want to loose that support.

I should sell you my sidewinder 2. Can't stand the bloody thing. It has got to have the smallest joystick ever. It really knackers my wrists up. I think i might purchase a saitek one. Had a cyborg and that was awesome especially for my jcb digger sized hands.

hell YES... what i did, was take a spring from an effects pedal, and then stretched it (made it about 1/2", when it was originally 1/4") and replaced it. now it is PERFECT!

Saitek has a whole suite of software of their own that is pretty good. Allows you to load and unload profiles from the stick, etc. Not sure of this applies to the Cyborg Evo, but it's the case for the X52 system.

You may have pushed me to buy that thing. One other issue.
The Attack 3 I have has a certain issue- it centers around the center too much, I have to apply extra force (not FORCE, but an extra effort) making the motion of the joystick not smooth. It really affects using machine guns on ground targets because of the lack of precise movement around the central part. May that be an issue with the Saitek aswell?

you should just wait a while.... Mine was wicked stiff when I bought it too, but it loosened up a bit and now its just perfect.... They do that so it lasts longer.... If it came loose, the spring would be pretty much useless after a few weeks....
