    Pci Or Agp 7800gt?

hey, what do you think to the new agp XFX GeForce 7800 GS Extreme Edition. i was going to get a whole new pci rig, but now this has come out should i save the £400 or so and just get this agp and 2 gigs of ram. Whats the diffrence between the agp and the pci, any major problems ect?

    thanks g

The PCI-E transfer is much faster and the card is designed for it. The only reason the AGP version of the 7800 was introduced, was because people were complaining. AGP is almost over. I saw this coming 6+ months ago and ordered the best AGP card I could get. If you have a lower end card now, and don't want to spend the money for a full upgrade and get away with the minimal, go ahead and get it. It is still too new to get any GOOD or BAD reviews on it.

A full upgrade being a new motherboard w/ pci-e, and possibly a new processor, also if you don't have a PSU with around 500w rating, you will have to get at least a 400w, but safer w/ a 500w. Depending on what card you have now, and if you can run on high already, you probably won't see much difference because of the transfer rate, you can't fudge that. If you already have a good card, don't waste your money on very little a difference.

i dont really want to buy a new rig, so back to the original question, how is the agp 7800 compared to the pci?

            theres no pci-express 7800gs

but the 7800gt pci-express is in the same price range and is considerably faster

the 7800gs is just a rip off for agp users

if you're willing, convert to PCI-E...this coming from an AGP user. May as well head the same direction as everyone else when it comes to technology.

Doesnt seem much point getting AGP now, there becoming out dated and some are already out dated

im gonna get a gs agp and then get a pci in say a year or so?
i dont have enough for a new rig right now, will this card last another year game wise?

yes 7800 is almost highest end...but since it's AGP, and since ATi's latest offering, it's not completely on the top. So i'd say your 7800 GS will last you a year.

but the one you are looking at is the extreme edition so it is overclocked and still slightly less capable than the 7800 pci-e 's but it costs way less also. but i just went through this with the upgrade because as said in other posts that this will probably be the last AGP release for new GPU's so you will have to upgrade later anyways. so if you can then do it now. is really your money so it is your choice. it still is a good card but the limitation will be the AGP slot and not the card .

Why not get a 7800gt with the free mobo deal??

Assuming you have S939 that is. If you don't then disregard.
