Max FPS

I run 1280x1024 and with most things high expet lighting and shadows on medium (For better sight). I get around 70 FPS avarage and 90+ when not in a fight. I have never gone above 100. Is it possible?

You would think so, and I mean without having to upgrade your cards. 2X 6800's in BF2 should be able to handle the meanist of info sent to it during game play. But I guess the real question would be, would you be able to tell a differnce from 70 to 100?

Yes you could. sounds illogical because it contradicts what we have learned at school, but it's true.
Immagine a second in your game that gets measured with 70 frames. But in this second you had a gap of 0.4 seconds between frame 36 and 37. This happens very frequently in computer games and is often referred to as stuttering. It will render 70 frames in a second but was stuck on one single frame for almost half of the second.

I am not sure but it could be that BF2 has a fps cap at 100.

i thought most humans couldnt see more than 60 hz...

Hertz has nothing to do with human vision

not sure the exact figure but i no 60hz on youre moniter is a bad idea it can cause eye strain.

You are right when assuming a CRT monitor.
But not with TFT/LCD displays. Most modern flat screen monitors only support 60Hz.

to take off the game's frame lock, type game.lockfps 0 in the console

it also depends on the monitor you are using, my monitor won't go above 85 Hz at 1024x768 I have a viewsonic EF70.

I read the link at 100fps.om
although the guy is well meaning
he clearly has not an educated clue what he is talking about
yes - some parts are right - but more are wrong
I do not suggest reading it

frame rate in the game does 3 things
1. makes it look better - duh!
you need higher rates depending our your movement through the database - either your motion or your head rotation
2. lets you do things better
eg fly/drive etc
3. really effects your hit(s) on targets
as some folks are moving (hehe) when you aim at them
they might not be where they appear to be to you and to your bullet(s)

so, the answer(s) is/are
use the fastest rate you can
even if it means lower eye candy
epecially if you fly helo and have gunners
if you walk all day
then, lower rate is ok

even if you have LCD like me (locked into 60 hz)
I still use in game rates of 70-90
to get better weapon rates for my gunners

i have hit 104 at times when in a vehicle or looking at a wall or something with low textures and i have mine set at 1280X1024 ultra high 4X AA 16 AF so yes it is possible to hit over 100.

I'm not sure to what parts you are referring to on the 100fps.com site.
I found a lot of good explanations. But I admit that I haven't red the whole thing.
Maybe you would be so kind to point out the so obvious mistakes, and clueless talk that you are referring to in your previous posting. It would be nice if you could explain to me what is so wrong in the editor's theory. Because I honestly don't know.

so that's why i can't up the refresh rate on my laptop! on my CRT monitor, it supports up to 100Hz but no matter what i do with my laptop, even if i change video drivers, it won't let me choose over 60Hz.

now i know why. thanks!
