I spent 30 bucks hoping to use the SF weapons in BF2 but can't do it until I play weeks more and continue levelling to gain access to them? Maybe i'm backwards here, but that seems pretty much like 'unlocking' to me. Anyone know if there's a shorter curve to 'unlocking' them than the regular ranks?

well you get two unlocks free, and you get a bunch of new maps and some already usable weapons, and vehichles. IMO its worht it, you dont just get free stuff for money, plus why would you waste 30$ just for some new weapons?

The SF weapons you can use in BF2 are just unlocks like the other weapons and you do need to gain rank to get them, it's not an isue, it's a fact

Yes, but you know n00bs go out buy the game, don't get what they thought they would get and then make abuot 1000 threads on here asking about getting the SF unlocks in BF2.. *sigh* well i suppose it's helped you get a high post count rombaft.

Bearing in mind of course, that the dev team for BF2 was comprised of the dudes who made DC for Bf1942.. they weren't 'professionals' before, so I'd say that having their creation come under scrutiny from hundreds of thousands (and their jobs come under scrutiny given the whining) that they've finally put their asses into gear about releasing things more balanced, and less buggy.
