Tier 2 Weapon Unlock Question

My friend, who has SF, says he has not been able to unlock the Tier 2 weapons (SF weapons) for the life of him. I didn't ask, but could this be that if he doesn't play SF maps, he won't get them? I'll have to inquire to see if he only has tried unlocking on vanilla BF2 maps. TIA

You only get the 3rd tier of unlocks while playing vanilla BF2. The unlocks in SF are the tier 2 unlocks from vanilla...Make sense?

I can't remember the exact rank but i believe you can't unlock any tier 2 unlocks till the Seargent rank. You also need the first unlock, so to unlock the assaults f2000 you first need to have unlocked the G3

What's his rank and what tier 1 unlocks does he have?

You only get the 3rd tier of unlocks while playing vanilla BF2. The unlocks in SF are the tier 2 unlocks from vanilla...Make sense?

There is no such thing as a "3rd tier" of unlocks (though there could be in the future, possibly in a mod).

AFAIK to get a tier 2 unlock you must:
1. have the tier 1 unlock for that kit
2. have an available unlock slot
3. (probably) play an SF map on a ranked server at least briefly

To get an extra unlock slot with each rank you must:
1. play an SF map on a ranked server at least briefly
2. be at least a Sergeant (Lance Corporal after the 1.2 patch)

Ok, so say he has the G3 unlock. Does he have to have an a FREE unlock before he can get the F2000, or once he unlocks Tier 1, he'll get Tier 2 for free automatically when he plays on a SF map? It seems that he might be too low ranking and doesn't have free unlocks if that is the case

He must have an unlock slot available and pick the F2000, he doesn't get the tier 2 automatically.

If my math is correct, to get all of the weapons, you'd need 12 unlocks? Hence, why they created the new higher ranks?

I wanted to logon onto his SF copy and pick the new Tier 2 weapons, but it appears I'll have to rank up before I can

Actually the new ranks have nothing to do with it. Once you reach Sergeant and run SF you get two unlocks at each rank so you don't need any additional ranks to get 12 unlocks. The two new tier 2 unlocks coming in the next patch will be accompanied by extra unlock slots at Lance Corporal and Corporal.

Does anyone know if you can ONLY unlock the SF weapons in Vanilla BF2? I think that's what my friend said when he logged onto BF2 and found a plethora of unlocks waiting for him.....

You can only UNLOCK them after running SF. You can only USE them in vanilla BF2.

jdrou you rock man, appreciate all the help you've provided. That's what I was saying without getting into more words. This is my belief:

1. Play a ranked round of SF
2. Load BF2
3. {Trumpets blare} Select your new unlock after login

Correct?

I just experienced this beautiful BF2:SF phenomena.

Here's how it happened with me - AND IT WORKS.

1. Played a round or two of SF (whilst collecting a few easy badges, and figuring out the keys for the gas mask and nightvision).
2. Disconnected the SF game, then went to the Communities option in the main BF2 menu interface- and activated BF2.
3. BF2 loads - and I am greeted with the profound drum-roll of either a promotion, award or... a few gun unlocks. Thats THREE gun unlocks to be exact

I was sargeant at the time, so I suppose that gave me the extra unlock I suppose.

To further verify this- my friend did the same on a enarby computer, and the exact same thing happened. only he played... 1 round of SF instead.
