    Armor tips needed...

I've just posted a topic with Armor tips:

Although I have a reasonable KDR against any enemy vehicle/armor, I just suck when using armor against infantry...

I see people easily doing 32/1 with the M1 or even the LAV-25 in Karkand. They seem to be good; but when I fight them with the T-90 they lose to me (usually ending with 40% of health)...

How can I become effective against infantry units?

    Thanks

The biggest things I find are:

    (1) Keep moving...Stay in one spot for no more then 5 secounds and expect to go BOOM!

    (2) You hear beeping going off as if AT has a lock..smoke at get out. Remember two AT shots in a APC and your dead!

    (3) Be an engineer and repair yourself but make sure you are far from the battle when you do or the enemy might take your apc

    (4) Know your map. If you know where they are going to spawn and where they hide you are one step up.

Thats all I can think of for right now..Good luck

In an APC war it really comes down to who gets off the first missle and connects...Cause after that the guns take off the rest of the health.

P.s. Why arent my stats updating in my sig? Anyone know? I am 45,000+ now!

        what he said...

Move - alot - sitting still means a c4 monkey is going to blow you sky high, or an engy is dropping mines on ur butt...

Use your smoke for getaways, its very handy....

And don't deal with infantry up close, you're better off not trying to cap in a tank...let the infantry do that and offer support from a short distance...

This applies to a lot of things besides armor - but KNOW THE SPAWNPOINTS - knowing where the guy you just killed is going to respawn at (and prolly as SpecOps) will greatly help you survive....

          - Your job is not to capture flags. Flags are in confined spaces. Avoid driving yourself into an area full of buildings. The infantry are who should do the capping, your job is to cover them without blocking yourself in.

            Rule #1 Armour Tip.

Set you Land Vehicles mouse sensitivity as high as you can. Just remember you dont want so sensitive that it makes it harder to aim.

            Rule #2 Armour Tip.

            Use all your camera angles.

              • Never switch to the gunner's seat if you're the only one in the tank. It's a very easy way for you to lose a tank.
              • I usually play as Special Ops when driving an APC. I place two C4 on a remote area of the vehicle like the bottom. In case I have to hop out (like enemy places C4 on the APC or to cap a flag) so I won't be killed by my own APC.
              • Remember the back is the most vulnerable area next to the treads on an APC or tank.
              • If you have to park switch to an external view and move the turret around a little so it appears like you're searching for someone. (I will say memorize the 'F' buttons)
              • The cannon on the APC and tank has splash damage, so just because you can't see the enemy, shooting the area around the enemy may damage him.

                Re: Armor tips needed...

If you are taking a flag, use the external camera. That way, you can easily see if a specops guy is running towards your back... at which point, let him get almost to you, backpedal and run him over.

Another thing to remember is that even with the relatively slow armor, if you're moving at all, infantry can't catch up with you.

But generally, you don't want to be in an area like most flags which have plenty of cover scattered around. Especially if you're in an APC, those are good vehicles but go down fast to AT missiles.

Play like you would if the other team was always spotting you. Because they will be.

If everyone on the map knew your exact location, what would you do differently?

                    Re: Armor tips needed...

all the tips here are great tips...but one thing I didn't see is what happens when you engage another armored vehicle?

Know where to aim, know where the weak parts are, and know that even though it should, tank shells do not go through buildings...this can be used to your advantage...if you know how. I'm not going to give my secrets away, but i have seen a few people that know what I know out there...

probably the best thing you can do is get the first shot off...you have a high chance of winning the battle if you shoot first....if you dont...well hope there is a supply crate around, or ram them! they will take damage, and if you can damage them enough, even from your exploding tank when they kill you, it might blow their tank up or damage it enough to render it unusable. :p

                      Re: Armor tips needed...

Here are My personal tastes with armour.

                      APC
                      AA
                      Tank

APCs and AA are almost always available. AA does suck, but on certain stages, Daqing, zatar, dragon valley, but mostly Ghost town, it's also nice on levithan cause you can see the choppers so far away, and they can't see you.

Grab a APC from the base furthest from the front line. Then race to the front area, keeping a eye on the mini map for how the battle is shifting. This performs 2 functions. Since the APC is hella fast, especially if you take advantage of steep hills. Bringing one from the back base forward, helps your team hold bases, while also giving you some easy kills, if you find any enemies trying to be sneaky. Even if you get blown up, you'll probably rough up any invaders, and with its speed, you can die, and bring it back to the area rather quickly. When actually in the front lines, avoid clusters, your too lightly armoured to take hits, however it's easy to take some distanced shots, and then scoot off. If you happen to be carrying infantry or part of a armour collumn this isn't the case, but all alone, or even with a couple infantry avoid head on fights, especially with tanks that see you.

AA is the worst armour peice no doubt. However if you get used to it, you actually can take down aircraft, sometimes it'll even be the enemies. AA is more about setting up in a spot thats has some cover, from bombs, and chopper attacks. Taking on a APC or tank, is usually your death, so you can't get around that, but against flying vehicles you find areas where it's harder on them then just out in the open. Some times out in the open works, like at the top of Kubradam. Usually it dosen't. It's also a great anti infantry weapon, It can clear roof tops well enough too, something I don't see people doing. Also use the guns to screw up your opponents aim, I'm sure we've all been in a tank or APC where your getting fired upon by a AA, and it's near impossible to get it back. This dosen't mean you can take on APCs or tanks, its a tactic for getting away, or finishing it off if it's engagin other friendlies.

Tank I hate for the most part, too slow, espeically against jets and choppers. Even against a good APC driver its hard to totally dominate. They are best used as guards for bases. And by guarding I mean a good distance from the flag. more importantly be in a position to put a shell into it if you can, or a short distance from a spot that you can.

Smoke is your friend, drop it as much as you want, god how I wish I had some on the AA. Hills, bumps, any object that puts you on a angle is a good way to deal with choppers. While your at it, don't be a hero and try using the tank shell or APC missle to take down choppers, hell don't use the missle on the AA right away, wait for a good shot, you'll avoid alot of TKs this way. The rapid fire guns are the best way to deal with choppers. Hell if your brave and overheat your main tanks machine gun switch into the other turret, its risky but you can screw em up real good. Especially if your lucky enough to have a gunner on a tank, avoid using the shells, it screws up their and your aim too much. On wake Island its soo much easier to sit there with two in a tank and use the machine guns to hit everything. A shell should be saved for one shot when the object will be at it's closest, or if it's turning.

                        Re: Armor tips needed...

Armour battles: if you have cover- use it, usually- 1st person who gets the 1st shot in would win the tank-battle. So if you see enemy tank- and he don't see you first, shoot him, take cover as you reload, and shoot again. Taking cover may sound stupid because the tank is so slow, but trust me- when you take cover- that could at least exclude the other half of your tank from being hit, and perhaps shielding the more vulnerable points of your tank as well. Plus if the enemy tank wastes a shot- that means more time for you to land another one.

In the case that you are hit first... chuck a smokie, and get out of there- get your bearings, and then decide if it is wise for you to engage or not. In any case- killing infantry is almost as important- because some of them will either be able to repair the enemy tank, if not- they can AT your ass down. Take a look on your minimap- and if you don't have enough friendlies around you to help you out- it is always wiser to pick a better fight were you have the help you need.

Also- when you're hit, or even as you jump into your tank- use the 'Q' radio command "Need Repairs" - to see where your nearest engineer is (on your minimap), fight near them; usually engineers are the most 'underpaid' and least appreciated kit in BF2- they value their jobs with repairing very much, so they're bound to help you out when you're in that fight against something else formidable against you.

                          now to your question
learn the maps - yes BUT ALSO LEARN tactics
look for enmey troops and their expected movements
                          and cut them off
                          eg
love to get them streaming from suburbs in Karkand trying to get to Square

( I have 9900+ kills in armor in less that 150 hours of armor time)

I do this too except I wait till I am trying to cap a remote/important flag, almost everytime they see teh flag going down and an empty vehicle they'll jump in to kill you with your vehicle, and BOOOM, flag shouold be down before they can respawn.

Use the splash damage, use walls! Don't bother aiming @ someone who is running, just shoot obstacles around and let splash damage do the rest.
